Thieves respond to Craigslist.org ad, rob victim, says cops

A victim, trying to sell a cell phone in Chicago’s Far North Side West Ridge neighborhood, was robbed by two men who responded to an online advertisement, said police.

Around 2:18 p.m., the victim met two males in their 20s, believed to be of Middle Eastern decent, at the intersection of West Peterson Avenue and North Mozart Street, near Mather Park, said police.

Investigators said one of the men grabbed the cell phone and both suspects fled the scene in a black Toyota Camry.

The driver was wearing a white T-shirt and the passenger was dressed in a blue button-down shirt, said police.

The getaway vehicle was last seen traveling westbound on Peterson from Mozart, at a high rate of speed, said police.

  1. A lot of the phones that are sold on CL are stolen anyways, so this may be a case of karma catching up with the shitheads...

A while back I remember reading a story of a woman who's bike was stolen and then posted in the for sale section of Craigslist. She set up a time to look at the bike, convinced the savage that she needed to take it for a test ride, and then just rode the bike home!

  2. Are we going to have a contest now between Middle Eastern and
black thieves as to who can steal the most. If you are anti-crime don't buy from Craig's List if it is an ipad, cell phone or bike.

  3. How about a police sting on all cell phones and bikes on Craig's List? Is that unconstitutional? Violating the rights of criminals.
