Starting around 7:52 p.m., gunshots were heard near Thorndale and Winthrop, Thorndale and Kenmore, and Thorndale and Sheridan, according to multiple 911 calls.
One eyewitness account indicated the shooter, described as a young, black male, fled the scene in a red compact car, possibly a Pontiac or an Oldsmobile Alero, said investigators.
Citing police communications, authorities spoke to another tipster who saw a black male wearing a white shirt and dark pants running through an alley near the 5900 block of North Sheridan Road, shortly after the shots were fired.
Around 8:05 p.m., police received information that alleged gang members were started to congregate at Thorndale Avenue Beach.
At the time of this report, there was no indication anyone had been shot and there were no reports of property damage.
UPDATE: Police found shell casings at the mouth of an alley on the 1000 block of West Thorndale Avenue, between Sheridan and Kenmore.
UPDATE: Around 9:38 p.m., more shots were fired on the 5200 block of North Winthrop Avenue. Witnesses saw several black males exchange gunfire, then flee the area.
UPDATE: One shooter involved in the 9:38 p.m. gun battle was wearing a black hoodie with red letters or a red stripe across the chest. The gunman fled the scene in a white, four-door Kia, said police.
I heard it at 6000 Sheridan., There were about 12+ shots fired. It sounded like a semi-automatic. They said the Maroon/Dark Red Pontiac went south on Sheridan.

ReplyDeleteI was supposed to visit a friend there last night. I declined as I had other things to do. That murder there last night was basically outside his front door. Shots fired at 5200 N. Winthrop at 9:38pm? I won't be going anywhere around that area again. Sorry, crossfire and I aren't a match (especially as bad of a shot as they are). I was going to buy a "condo" there a few years back but had, let's just say....."second thoughts".
There were at least 12 shots in northern side of Lakeview, possibly southern end of Uptown the other night. NOT fireworks. I heard sirens about 5 minutes later. No reports on that.
So it all just begs the question. Is fancy, schmanzy Starbucks, Seattle "cool", "artsy fartsy", "diversity", "activism" wannabe's going to address this? Or just stand behind a counter patronize/condescend and collect $$$$ like Walmart? Maybe they view random gunfire as "diversity" or "art" too but they were scurred of Detroit (Kalamazoo and Wisconsin "artists").

Once again, blacks ruining the neighborhood. We should be able to live in our city without the constant fear of these animals.
ReplyDeleteStarbucks is "cool" and adapts to their local market like a chameleon (for a $, like Walmart). So I truly believe they have a responsibility here. If they want to support local "artists", they also have to support locals trying not to be caught in the crossfire. Case closed.

STOP THE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. TELL THE POLICE TO HARASS THESE CREATURES AND CALL THE POLICE ON THEM SAYING "THEY ARE SELLING DRUGS". LETS MAKE THEM SO UNCOMFORTABLE THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO VISIT OUR AREAS. WHY DO YOU THINK MT.GREENWOOD/BEVERLY HAS SUCH LOW CRIME(actually lower than north) for an area THATS SURROUNDED BY THE EPICENTER OF GHETTOS?
