Uptown shooting on Malden Avenue; cops brace for retaliation

Authorities expect more violence after a male was shot near an Uptown neighborhood playground.

Citing police dispatch reports, the shooting occurred on the 4600 block of North Malden Avenue, near Malden and Leland, around 5:30 p.m.

According to the latest update, the victim was shot at 4650 North Malden Avenue at the Gooseberry Playlot.

Sources said a 1994, red or maroon vehicle registered to an address in Gurnee, Illinois, was possibly involved in the shooting.

Authorities said this evening's gang-related violence stems from a rival gang's conflict with the Black P Stones.

Friday's shooting may also be connected to the July 3, 2012, shooting on the 4400 block of North Racine, where two females and a male were injured by gunfire, said sources.

  1. Whatever.

But the area sure is "turning around" (overheard in 2006).

But upon further research, I've read it's been "turning around" since circa. 1950 (like Detroit).
