The incident occurred around 1:27 a.m. on the 6800 block of North Greenview Avenue, between Farwell and Pratt.
Citing police dispatch reports, after the robbery, an eyewitness saw the victim running northbound on Greenview Avenue screaming and chasing after the offender.
The thief was described as a 6-foot-tall black male wearing a black shirt and sunglasses.
Investigators said the mugger was armed with a large paring knife.
According to the latest update, the offender was last seen running eastbound on Farwell from Greenview.
As the thief made his getaway, he stripped off his black shirt, exposing the white shirt he was wearing underneath, said police.
