1 killed in Uptown drive-by shooting

A person was shot and killed in Chicago’s North Side, Uptown neighborhood and the shooting appears to be gang-related, said police.

The incident occurred near the intersection of West Lawrence Avenue and North Sheridan Road, around 12:32 a.m.

Authorities noted the address of occurrence as 943 West Lawrence Avenue and shell casings were discovered at 947 West Lawrence Avenue.

One eyewitness said the shooter fled the scene in a small black SUV.

An anonymous 911 caller said the getaway vehicle is a red or maroon four-door SUV.

Investigators said the Vice Lords may be responsible for the latest Uptown shooting and the Gangster Disciples are already planning to retaliate.

The next shooting may occur near Clarendon Park at 4501 North Clarendon Avenue, said authorities.

The shooting victim, a 19-year-old man, was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

  1. They should just call in the airstrike for that whole section of Uptown and it'll all be good.

  3. The people who bought condos in the area hoping things were going to improve are probably finding themselves in a real pickle these past few years. Can't sell, can't put up with the squalor and gangbanging. Thanks to the black population and particularly to Section 8 an area like Uptown becomes radioactive where normal people can't live.

    1. Please don't forget the poor souls who are in negative equity positions. Now blame that on Section 8!!!! So-called smart-ass fratboys. Be honest, negative equity and high taxes are your issues not gangbangers or Section 8 residences. Go ahead and vote for Mitt, he will singlehandly put your shitty condos back in a positive equity position. Talk that shit to anyone you think who don't know any better. Sorry WRONG negro!!! In fact, vote for another Bush, maybe he will invite to play golf with him at his favorite country club. And to end my comment, looking at those shitty equity positions, Section 8 may not be a bad thing.

    1. You mean a RPG?
      Yep, that'll work.
That and a curfew for black people with criminal records and drop-outs and unemployed.
Yes, we don't value or respect black culture.

  7. Who can blame the hapless Uptown condo buyers, screwed by the man and buried in their McCondos?

They just be beaten down fo too long now by wall street, no hope, no prospect of leaving, so they just has to shoot up the block. It aint they fault.

Tearing down the projects was a greater folly than building them in the first place. At least when Cabrini was full they were contained & warehoused. Now any block can enjoy the fruits of diversity thanks to HUD.

  8. @ Anon 9:12 and 9:28, you completely don't make sense. This has nothing to do with the down fall of the economy, and perhaps if you had a higher degree of reading comprehension beyond second grade you would understand this article. Black people are causing a disproportionate amount of the crimes and mob attacks which is devaluing the area and causing all people to be even more afraid of blacks then before. Please have your people get their act together and then they can live in peace with other groups.

  10. Why not raise the fares on the red line to $20-25 per ride. Those that have work id's for areas off the red line could still pay normal fares. Make it more difficult for the south side red line thugs to head north. It might help cut down on crime, but I doubt it.

  11. I fear that the situation in Uptown will only get worse. I have lived in Uptown since November 2004. I have participated in numerous "positive loitering" actions. But enough is enough. When my lease is up for renewal this November we are moving out.
