The robbery happened around 1:02 a.m. on the 500 block of West Briar Place, near Briar and Broadway, said police.
The victim was standing outside waiting for a ride when a male black offender stole her cell phone, said an investigating officer.
Citing preliminary police dispatch reports, the thief, who stands about 6’3” and has a heavy build, was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
The crook was last seen running northbound toward Belmont Avenue from Briar Place.
Around 1:06 a.m., police stopped two possible suspects at two separate locations in Lakeview.
One subject was detained at Halsted and Aldine; a second subject was stopped at Halsted and Briar.
The subject at Halsted and Aldine was released when the victim failed to identify him as the man who stole her iPhone.
It appears the subject at Halsted and Briar was also released… because as of 1:28 a.m., officers were still looking for the cell phone thief.
At the time of this report, there was no indication anyone had been arrested for the robbery.

ReplyDeleteThey're all over the place at all hours. I've never walked down Halsted St. in the a.m. but did about 6:30 this morning. Just more convenient to get to where I'm going. They're hanging out on the corners. Are people buying drugs that early too? Why can't you people (especially supposed home/condo owners who have a vested interest here) contain this lingering and loitering? These aren't decently dressed black men going about their business heading to work or the store. They're dressed like thugs, angry/smug faces, smart-eyeing people, and are OBVIOUSLY up to no good. No "profiling" here though, right? Just as I don't go to Halsted St. at night anymore, I'll avoid it as a shortcut to work in the arly a.m. too.

The Center on Halsted is attracting all those nig thugs. The nigs show up early and wait for it to open. They spend the day there chimping out. Then late at night after closing they hit the streets looking for victims.

ReplyDeleteYa know, I've never been in that COH before. Guess nothing there for me nor any interest. However a friend and I picked up some food at Whole Foods an he mentioned we could sit in there and eat. Sure. Not many people but there was some major disruption at the desk with some thugs. The worker was obviously beyond frustration and kinda went off on them. Then 2 minutes later there was some other kinda ruckus. The bathrooms were "closed for cleaning" but the door was opened and they were clean so I used it. Obviously they have to be "closed" for some reason.

And we are the only state out of 50 that does not permit concealed carry for law abiding citizens.....what a joke. I think those thugs would think twice if there was a chance their next victim could pull a gun on them and defend him or herself.

ReplyDeleteI just know where I come from there was always a line at one bathroom stall that was supposedly known for the drug users on Saturday nights (rumor). I don't know where they obtained those drugs if that was the case but they certainly weren't offered next to the front door. I can say that. Detroit. Out.
