Sorry to hear of this, an obvious era gone but, in reality Chicago, you have way too many bars and not enough of everything else. An era gone. Everything must change. Hopefully the liquor license is not renewed and something more diverse and "progressive" takes it's place. Like second hand smoke, Twinkies and V-8 engines, time to move on.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of asshole writes such a nasty comment on someone's obituary? Obviously anonymous 1:18 AM never went to Duke's.
ReplyDelete@10:31-You're looking for respect for the dead on this web site? Obviously you haven't read any of the comments on CNR. Check out the thread on young Mark Watts.
ReplyDeleteI don't trust anyone who doesn't drink and who bashes those who do.
ReplyDeleteFYI...you don't have to be an alcoholic to enjoy a drink and some good music now and then.
Anon 1:18 AM - Sounds like you need to get out of Chicago bud and head to Salt Lake City. You'll hopefully be less angry there.
ReplyDeleteThe bar was sold prior to his death and a martini bar is opening.
ReplyDeleteI understand the folks at the Glennwood Bar purchased Duke's.....a Martini Bar? I doubt that will fly. I was hoping they might carry on the fine tradition of good music and neighborhood friendship. In short, making a contribution to the Music Scene which is trying to get a foothold on and around Morse.
ReplyDeleteYes, They have along with the incoming resturant on the corner. A Martini bar might help keep some of the money coming into the neighborhood from the theaters. We have some wonderful theaters . the people come down and then go to other neighborhoods to eat and drink. Keep the money in Rogers Park !!
ReplyDeletejust noticed last night that the bar has been stripped down and emptied/cleaned out. `was hoping they'd continue 'as-is'.. I hope the bar staff & everyone is doing well- a neighbor.
