Car theft, child kidnapped in West Ridge not bona fide, says police
A car thief stole a vehicle in Chicago’s West Ridge, West Rogers Park neighborhood. Police said an 8-year-old girl was in the backseat when the car was taken.
Around 11:12 p.m., a car was reported stolen from the 6100 block of North Mozart Street, near Mozart and Glenlake.
The driver was walking a friend to the door when a thief drove off in a silver Toyota Camry with the Indiana license plate: 1 0 6 D X R.
Investigators said the car was last seen going southbound on Mozart Street.
At 11:36 p.m., authorities contacted the Illinois State Police.
If more information becomes available, this article will be updated accordingly.
UPDATE: At 12:10 a.m., police called off the search. Officials said the incident was not a bona fide car theft or kidnapping.
One officer said the report was a "bunch of bullsh*t".
