1st district police officer accused of being 'rude' to theft victim from Florida
The following information is from a December 1, 2011 online review of the 1st District Chicago police station at 1718 South State Street.
Disclaimer: Chicago News Report makes no claim that the information provided in this story is either true or false.
Report summary:
A Florida woman in town on a 3-day vacation had her wallet stolen from her purse while entering Macy's at 111 North State Street.
A Macy's security guard contacted the police.
Via the telephone, an officer at the 1st district police station told the victim she needed to cancel her credit cards before he could help her.
When the victim tried to tell the officer that she had already cancelled her cards, the officer said that if she continued to talk over him, he was not going to take her report.
When the officer continued to berate the victim, the victim said, "OK, I am not stupid, I get it, you do not need to lecture me."
Without a moments hesitation, the officer said, "Bye-bye," and hung up on the victim.
When Macy's security called the police a second time, the victim spoke with an officer who politely took her incident report.
"The second one was very nice, never told me that I had to cancel my cards before he could take my report, and it was done," said the theft victim.
The victim claims be an attorney who handles labor and employment law cases.

Most cops are rude ignorant SOBs. They get drunk on power because they are short on brains.
ReplyDeleteIt's about time an outside firm hired by the city did quality inspections of Chicago police. If you work in a retail store or a call center you are regularly shopped or called by mock customers and are graded on the way you performed. I bet the union would not like this, but it would be great for the citizens.
ReplyDeleteand that is why it is SO HARD even for a stolen wallet...TO FILE A POLICE REPORT. IMAGINE BEING TREATED THIS WAY IF YOU HAVE BEEN RAPED OR ATTACKED IN SOME WAY
ReplyDeletePeople need to keep in mind that it is very, very easy to go onto websites and leave reviews that are biased, incomplete, or outright false.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying that what this lady says didn't happen, rather I'm saying that what she put up needs to be viewed skeptically.
It's like when that Devon Ross guy got killed in the hood, of course we saw his friends & family on the news saying it was unjustified, he wasn't armed, he wasn't running from the cops, he had never been in trouble with the law, etc.
Those people have nothing to lose, and can go on TV and say whatever they want. The police, besides having jobs to do elsewhere, are exposed to way too much liability whenever they say anything, especially before an investigation has been finished (much less started).
Bottom line - remember that there are always at least three sides to every story - yours, mine, & the truth.
Big Al,
ReplyDeleteThat's bull! That women had NO reason to make up that story or embellish it. I have called the police as well and have been treated in a rude arrogant manner too. Their job is to SERVE and PROTECT not inflict their attitude on a VICTIM! While most cops aren't like that, the day a person gets one who is changes their perception of cops and our city in general. There is NO excuse for that type of treatment to a visiter or resident...PERIOD!
Towanda - That woman had no reason to make up or embellish the story - really?
ReplyDeletePlease let us know, how exactly do you know this? Were you present? Do you personally know this victim? Has her story in any possible way been corraborated? What can you tell us about this woman's background, her prior interations with police, etc??
I'm by no means a cop (and frankly not much of a police supporter), however, people need to keep in mind that anybody can go online and make up any story about anything.
Yes, anyone can go online and "tell a story" but, based on my experiences with Chicago cops, it's highly likely she was telling the truth. One of my experiences with them resulted in getting a letter from their legal department regarding an upcoming appointment to testify. I didn't persue the matter, I just wanted to know if in fact that was a REAL off-duty cop that flashed his badge and did what he did. It obviously was. That's all I needed to know and have watched them like a hawk since.
ReplyDeleteI always say the biggest gang in Chicago....are the Chicago Cops.
ReplyDeleteBig Al,
ReplyDeleteI draw my conclusion and opinion on several factors.
1) She was a visiter/tourist and therefore had not had any interaction with Chicago police before so would not have been already jaded from an experience with them.
2) She's a lawyer and while that doesn't necessarily say lawyers are honest upstanding people, what she isn't is a defense attorney trying to get guilty people off. She deals in...wait for it...employment law.
3) my experiences, along with many thousands of other citizens who have experienced the same rude, condescending arrogant behavior.
Most times I give the CPD kudos, despite the uncalled for behavior exhibited towards law abiding citizens, but I have no doubt this lady, a visitor to our so called "great" city, is telling the truth. Some cops just hate their jobs and the people they are suppose to "Serve and Protect". It is all too obvious in their response towards victims. IMHO
this broad sounds like a real cunt, probably voted for obama, and oblivious to the fact that when in chicago you are surrounded by opportunists. When this cunt called the police for help, but acted like a cunt, she got the same treatment. Go back to whatever libtard city you came from dumb bitch (and have fun getting there without your shit) I'll bet the farm she was here for occupy chicago, or even more likely, she's some pig from the CPS cabal. Chicago cops are great - you show them respect, and they'll return the favor. If anyone knows how to spot a rat, it's a chicago cop. Fuck you and your handbag, bitch. A lawyer bitch no less. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'll bet Anonymous Dec 7 4:53PM is a Chicago Police Officer. Chicago's Finest.
ReplyDeleteI'd be willing to bet that is a cop as well with that mouth on him. Bet he hates women as well.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet anything the "victim" is a CPS teacher / union rep getting back at the police for the Cunt at occupy chicago with the "don't shoot our kids" sign. Could very well be her....we're not that stupid.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 8:44, you obviously are "that stupid". I hope that you enjoy the next 5 years with Obama. I know that I will.
ReplyDeletethere is a 1 in 2 chance someone voted for Obama. Your not being particularly clever. Most of the people on this blog are very pro CPD, and they can be dicks. Just like you are now.
ReplyDeleteTo Towanda from yesterday - you made my point for me.
ReplyDeleteShe SAYS she is an atty, and from out of state. We have no way of KNOWING that either, much less one, of those points are true.
That's why I say to take these comments with a big grain of salt.
How do you know that I'm either Big, named Al, or both?!?! BC I said so on CNR?
At least on here, Timmy backs up what he posts with info that CAN be verified - police scanner tapes can be reviewed, police reports can be pulled, he can go to the FB page & have a conversation with someone & put it up here, etc. And he put up the disclaimer that CNR can't verify the accuracy of the report posted. He can only verify that he found the report online, took a screenshot, & posted it here.
As a "visitor", having no past experience with Shitcago nor it's PD, I don't think she would have taken the time to post a lengthy, detailed account of her experience if it were not true. It's possible she exaggerated a bit.
ReplyDeleteHow do we know that an officer in a Ford Crown Vic is really an officer? And really cares about you? Is it because there's some badge? Is it authentic? The municipalities resell those Crown Vics (with that side flashlight still intact, non-full wheel covers and body style that hasn't been changed in 2 decades) for a buck-0-5 to the average Joe or Jose' or Jerome and your gubment allows it. They should be scrapped/destroyed or parted out with the police "details" crushed. Your gubment also allows people to obtain cell phones in the name of Donald Duck for an additional $40 charge (security deposit) if they don't want to give an SSN or address to open an account.
The lady that posted that comment could very, very easily be traced though.
This crap has been going on for years though - unchecked and aided just like Detroit. My sister will never let it go that 16 years ago her purse was snatched downtown and they cashed her personal check with her driver's license at one of your casinos (I'm absolutely sure they looked like her photo, I'm sure it was coincidental).
In Detroit, they make you go home to the suburbs to fetch your car title before you can report it stolen because "we know how you people are". Just like her having to report her credit cards stolen first. NO different here.
I think the police make up stories as they go to cover their but they will say you were going to hit them bite them just plain out lie to cover their self i was told by a cop friend we all stick together and i have known him for a long time and i have heard stories its true in the city of chicago the police do what they want until the under cover crew gets them :)
ReplyDeletehe told me most of the people that leave this comments are police while their at work the write pro things so the dept.looks good its sad and dont let cops fool you they get paid very well by us taxes we pay for them !!!!!!!!!!!!
