Stabbing at Uptown social services agency?
Police are investigating an alleged stabbing at an Uptown neighborhood social services organization on the city's North Side.
On October 31, 2011, around 11:12 p.m., a purported stabbing was reported at 4730 North Winthrop Avenue.
According to several internet directories, the address belongs to an organization called Safe Haven Program or Chicago Health Outreach.
Tuesday, at 12:06 a.m., police were still sitting on the crime scene, waiting for a police evidence technician.
Chicago News Report contacted Safe Haven Program, but the man who answered the phone refused to discuss the incident.

Safe Haven is a group of scattered site housing for recovering addicts/ alcoholics. Sorry to hear about the stabbing. Was it between residents or toward a staff member, I wonder? Unfortunately, it takes more than detoxing with a roof over your head to get clean and sober. Sober up a horse thief and he's still a horse thief. Change takes time, patience and a LOT of work!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sound like this is a "safe haven" to me. People have to want to get clean & sober. They have to have a desire to change at least ONE thing about their lives to make it a little better. Until that occurs, no safe haven will be able to do that for them. Most times, it's about a roof over their heads, food in their stomach and warmth in the cold. It's a necessity and not a desire for many.
ReplyDeleteNot a stabbing. A mentally unbalanced man tried to take out his own pacemaker and later died.
