Rogers Park: 2 crimes in same area in less than 24 hours

Within 24 hours, at least two men were attacked within a two-block radius in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood. According to police, one of the victims was robbed.

Tuesday, November 15, 2011, around 9:24 p.m., a man was beaten by an unknown offender near the CTA Howard Red Line station at 7519 North Paulina Street, said police.

When authorities arrived at the North Side train station they couldn't find the victim.

After contacting police dispatch for more details, firefighters and responding officers were told the battery victim, who was reportedly bleeding from the head, was at the CTA bus terminal on the west side of the Howard train station.

The offender was described as a male black, 20 to 25-years-old.

The suspect, who was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, fled the scene southbound on Paulina Street, then eastbound on Rogers Avenue.

At the time of this report, the motive for the attack was unclear.

Earlier in the day, at approximately 3:37 a.m., a man was assaulted during a strong arm robbery near the intersection of Clark and Howard Streets, said police.

The 3:37 a.m. incident at Clark and Howard is about two blocks west of the 9:24 p.m. robbery near the Howard "L" station.

Investigators said an unknown male black offender forcibly stole $120 from the victim.

Information regarding the offender's description wasn't immediately available, because responding officers had to wait for a Spanish interpreter to get more details.

Eventually, authorities were told that the mugger is a "young" male black, who was last seen wearing a black jacket, brown pants, and carrying a brown backpack.

After the strong arm robbery, the assailant fled westbound through a nearby viaduct on Howard Street, then southbound via an unspecified route; possibly Wolcott Avenue.

No further details are available regarding either case.

  2. there is an alley directly across the street from Lost Eras antique shop, two doors down the alley, west side of alley I see deranged looking blacks climbing the fence to get into the back yard all the time....might be a crack den. Check there.

  4. We have had a massive influx of black panhandlers in Rogers Park, for every three we've called the cops on for weeks at a time and get rid of, five take their place.
I know every time I get paid and leave the apartment, I say to myself, "I hope a toothless, smelly drug addict asks me for money today! Why should I take care of people I love or myself when I can enable an addict for one more day?"
