Police investigate 'blood' at Wells Street Bridge

Police are investigating an incident at the Wells Street Bridge near Wells and Wacker Drive.

According to a police dispatch report, investigators found large pools of blood on the walkway and along the railings, near the northwest corner of the bridge.

Police believe a male victim was injured on the bridge and may have fallen, or was pushed, into the Chicago River.

Authorities did not say how they determined the potential victim is male.

Police checked their call logs, but there was no record of a 911 call from the area, nor was there any indication an ambulance was called to the Wells Street Bridge.

At 9:02 a.m., two divers entered the Chicago River.

If more details become available, this article will be updated accordingly.

UPDATE: The search for the victim came up negative and the divers were out of the water by 9:52 a.m.  A police evidence technician was called to the scene to photograph and collect the evidence.

UPDATE: At 10:11 a.m., the Chicago Fire Department was asked to wash "what appears to be blood" from a sidewalk on the 300 block of North Wells Street.

  1. A while back there was an article about some hippy that was living in the bottom of one of those bridges. He actually had a decent shelter, and somehow even rigged electricity to use a Playstation 2 down there.

Maybe it was him or a copycat that built there shelter wrong, and got squished! As I remember the police knew he lived down there, so perhaps that is how they know its a male victim???
