Hester Scott: Family, friend rips into mudered cop's 15-year-old grandson?

In her last Facebook post, Hester Scott thanked her friends and family for her many birthday wishes and talked the fabulous time she had a jazz club; now police are holding a 15-year-old suspect in Scott's brutal murder.

On Friday, November 4, 2011, around 4:30 p.m., 55-year-old Hester Scott, a veteran Chicago police officer, was found dead in a sewer-trap behind her home on the 8800 block of South Wallace Avenue.

Several reports indicate Scott was beaten to death.

According to CBS Chicago news, a 15-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the slain officer's death.

ABC7 Chicago news said a source told them, prior to her death, Scott was on desk duty for pointing a gun at her 15-year-old nephew, whom she adopted after his biological parents were unable to take care of him.

Although the media has been shy about identifying Scott's grandson as her killer, a so-called family member confirmed Scott's grandson was charged with the Chicago Police officer's murder.

A family friend, who did not give me permission to use her name, said she and Scott grew up together in the Altgeld Garden housing projects.

The family friend also said she spent time with Scott the day before she was murdered.

Although the family friend did not mention Scott's grandson's name, she did express her anger over the situation.

Here's what she said on Facebook:

"IF IT IS SO BAD AT HOME, LEAVE. THE PEOPLE IN THE STREETS WILL NEVER TOLERATE WHAT YOUR FAMILY WILL OR HAS.

MY HEART IS GRIEVED RIGHT NOW FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO HESTER SCOTT.

I CRY FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE ABANDONED BY THEIR PARENTS AND I CRY FOR THE GOOD FAMILY MEMBERS AND FOSTER PARENTS WHO DO THEIR BEST TO GIVE THESE CHILDREN LOVE AND CARE AND THEN YOU SPIT ON OUR EFFORTS TO HELP MAKE YOU WHOLE."

I think everyone knows who she is talking to.

UPDATE: 15-year-old KeShawn Perkins was formally charged with Hester Scott's murder.

Police said Perkins beat and stabbed his grandmother to death after she confronted him about skipping school.

Perkins is a 9th grade high school student at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep at 250 East 111th Street.

  1. Per the local police officer blog for Cops in the Second City (the one that is available to the public), Officer Scott, after adopting her nephew, tried to have him committed as a ward of the state because he was such a wild, out of control kid. However (and again, this is per the blog's article, & comments from other officers), the kid was smart enough to know that he could keep reporting his aunt(or grandma, conflicting reports) to welfare case workers & police internal affairs.

While I don't know whether what he said to the authorities is true, his remarks resulted in her being confined to desk duty, and having her weapons revoked, and also made it so she couldn't turn the little miscreant over to the state.

So there are again at least two sides to this story - the side the kid painted, of an overbearing, threatening aunt/grandma who adopted him then beat him constantly, and the side of a miscreant who was such an evil, lifelong gangbanger wannabe that his parents abandoned him, so he then set his sights on ruining his aunt's life.

Like everything in life, the truth here probably lies somewhere in the middle.

  2. He is going to make the men of his jail so happy...

I can hear his sobs and cries now, muffled with a dirty wet sock as he take a big hung elephant with 10 or 11 inches over and over and over until he learn to like it.

He will get aids and hep c and die in prison ... god smiles at those foes of justice that he smote.

  4. Cop Killers are praised in jail. Sorry...but that is the way it is...It's likely that he will be promoted immediately in a Prison Gang. Maybe the COs will be able to give him shit, but there aren't enough.

  5. This kid is gonna have it madeNovember 7, 2011 at 9:22 AM

Age 15, and with a "history" of mental disease - he's not going anywhere near a prison with big, scary black men.

He's going somewhere that will cost $75k/yr plus to house, medicate, counsel & protect him. And eventually, he'll learn how to game the system, tell the shrinks the answers they want to hear, and earn his release.

At which time, he will get a lifetime of financial support from the state because of his mental "disability." Not to mention, traditional welfare from the city, and once he starts knocking up ignorant HS girls, will start collecting money from their spawns, too.

  8. Not!!!! He will be tried as an adult. He is a young african american male that killed a Chicago Police Officer. Trust me when I say that he is done, cooked, skinned, fried. And even if he does go to a mental facility trust me it will not be the gold coast in. This is truly tragic! The saddest part is that had the officer not been stripped she probably would have been able to protect herself. It's just sad all around.

  10. This is such a sad a unfortunate story.. I am a friend of her son .. Miss Hester has always been a WONDERFUL WOMAN, she loved her grandchildren.. She has never turned her back on anyone of them even when they were defiant.. So im here to set the record straight I knew this family well, and she was falsely accused of what her grandson has said about her that is why her badge was reinstated to her, sadly after she was gone :'(.. R.I.H... REST WELL HESTER....
