On November 24, 2011, around 1:58 a.m., Ross, a father of two, was shot in an alley behind the 7300 block of South Emerald Avenue on the city's South Side, said police.
Prior to the shooting, police reportedly tried to pull Ross and several other male suspects over during a traffic stop.
When the suspects' vehicle crashed into a garage, the men took off on foot and a female officer followed Ross into an alley, said several reports.
While in the alley, Ross and the female officer allegedly engaged in a struggle and Ross purportedly punched the officer in the face.
According to the Chicago Tribune, when the female officer began to feel "faint", she fired her weapon, killing Ross.
A source said Ross was shot in the back and the female officer, who was identified as a woman with blond hair, was injured because she didn’t know how to handle her weapon.
The Independent Police Review Authority (IPRA) has launched a routine investigation into the police-related shooting.

My brother was fiercely protective of women and far from dumb, and hitting a police officer to avoid capture on a foolish charge would be, in fact dumb. To many (Gold coast master), Devon was just another life that was disposable in the hood. But, to the ones (like myself) who knew and loved him he was a great father, son, brother, cousin, partner, friend and most imporantly CHILD OF GOD! In my eyes, there is no "justified" reason to shoot an UNARMED man, no child of God should be assassinated as my brother (from another mother) was. In the end, only two people and God knows what happened in that alley, and unfortunately my brother is no longer here to tell his story. I known devon over 15 years he worked at the posted office and he was also a auto dealer on the same license i have. He was my partner and a friend.He may have ran because every body else ran and the lady cop was a intimidated by him.If u were a cop what would u have said after murdering a helpless person.Oh he hit me and tried to take my gun....yeah rite! Second, I find it strange that the police have been very quiet about the whole situation.(common when there is a bad shoot) Also the first thing I also noticed is that the oficers story has changed three times, and lastly and most important there is no way the Chicago Police can call shooting some one in the back three times justifiable. One shot, maybe, two shots or more in the back, I just don't see it. It is a sad situation all the way around. Probaly unnessary and very unfortunate all the way around.
Now I could respond to all the racist comments made here by some sick people,But I choose not to.
I will say for the record that I am a police officer and I know for a fact that immediatly after the incident the officer was "coached" on what to say about what happened. I know this be cause like I said I am a cop. This is what we do. She had to say he punched her not because he did, but she had to some way justify using deadly force on an unarmed person.
In the end,hopefully the truth will come out. You see, there is more here than meets the eye.
On the one hand a mans life is over, on the other an officer has to live with that fact for the rest of her life. NO body wins and everybody looses. In the up coming weeks, the investigation will will point out all the facts of the case and I know the family will probaly file a wrongful death lawsuit against the officer, the deparment, and the city,and the city will in all likelyhood settle out of court,And none of this will bring Devon back.
But what is realy upseting about all of this is that this whole scene will play out again somewhere else. Maybe next time the roles will be reversed, maybe not. but in any event life will go on.
Very sorry for your loss. Did not know the young man but in any event no one deserves to lose their life. Whether it was the officer or Devon. Everyone should have some kind of morals to not post anything rude upon this family. If the shoe was on the other persons feet im pretty sure that they would not want any harsh comments either. Thus revealing the hidden or missing link in the historical past of the people now known as Negroes, located in parts of Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, the Caribbean, Central, North and South America, as well as, many other remote places throughout the earth.
ReplyDeleteIn Deuteronomy 28:68 it states that, "and the Lord shall bring thee back into Egypt in ships by the way whereof I said unto thee: Thou shalt see it no more again and there ye shall sell yourselves unto your enemies for bondsmen and for bondswomen, and no man shall buy you." In simplest terms this metaphor is saying, that Israel would go into slavery; similar to the cruety of Egypt. The statement that no man shall buy you, simple means no one would free us that only the God of Israel would ultimately grant us freedom. (In ancient times, an Israelite could sell himself to his brother as a hired servant and be paid for his labour. However, in this case he would not receive wages for his labour)
Israel attempted to avoid their inevitable fate, worldwide dispersion, by fleeing into West Africa. However, we were taken into the western hemisphere via the Atlantic Slave trade. No longer were we to be identified as a nation of Israelites, but instead as a nonentity called Negroes.
Dueteronomy the 28th Chapter verses 36 and 37 states, "The Lord will bring thee and thy king who thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation that thou hast not known, thou nor thy fathers; and there shalt thou serve other gods, of wood and stone. And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb and by-word, among all the people whither the Lord shall lead the away."
In Deuteronomy 32 it states that a "no people" would rule over the nation of Israel because of their sins. At the time of this prophecy Euro-gentiles were uncivilized. They were the Greeks, Romans, Spanish, Portuguese, English and French, etc. These nations rose out of obscurity and became rulers over the people of God Almighty, the Blacks of today. Jeremiah 5 explains God's anger in this manner. "just as you have provoked me by serving strange gods in your land, so I will provoke you by causing you to serve strangers in a land that is not yours."
Israel was scattered among the nations though the process of time which exacted the punishment spoken against them by their God who delivered them from Egyptian bondage. The inhabitants of Caanan became a snare for Israel because Israel served their gods. They were allowed to oppress and harass the Israelites for many centuries. The Assyrian and Babylonian captivites became the implementation of the curses for a time. Nonetheless, there were conditions of the curses which could not be accomplished while in exile among those nations.
However, the African came to these shores of America from West Africa as chattel slaves in chains. Without dignity, they were stripped of their names, language and culture. The name of their plantation owners were branded on them, as if they were animals. African Americans still bear these names today: Washington, Jones, Brown, Green, Martin, Williams, Smith, Johnson, and what have you. The Black slaves were valued at 3/5 of a man, meaning not only were they not recognized as Americans, but they were not even recognized as human beings. The case of Dred Scott, illustrates this fact through the very justice system of that time.
No, matter, how you see it did it take three bullets? A lot of the comments are from the view poiint of the police. Most police would not have needed three bullets to capture a suspect. How long has this police officer been on the force. Are there guide lines that should be followed? What was the offense that the young man did, did he have a weapon? In order to have a shoot out as proposed by the police, he must have had a gun. How do you feel faint and shoot your gun three times. How close was the young man shot? I hope the investigation tell or answer questions, and I hope the Real Whole story comes out. Yes, he did not use good judgement; but is that a reason to die or be executed because that is exactly what happened to Devon. Then why did she use unlawful use of her gun in the past or was that just a rumor. This story does not hold water. I hope the top police do there job and remove a trigger happy untrained police officer that does not adhere or follow police procedure. All people deserve the Truth and the whole truth. If this police officer gets away with this, shame on the City of Chicago.

ReplyDeleteYou know its a shame how people talk. Devon was a real person who had a good heart. And for people to reply as if they knew him is heartbreaking. I went to Devon's funeral today and it was so many people there that loved him and cared greatly for him. It really ticks me off at how cold hearted people can be and talk about the decease like they are nothing. But I tell you one thing. Devon was a great man, father, friend, partner, you name it he was it. No he was not a husband as of yet but it was coming. He was only 27. I really want to go in and tell the people who are making comments as if they knew him, but im not. Its not worth it. Im just gonna let you all talk and have your fun cause in the in. DEVON WINS. He was put on this earth for a reason and he served his purpose as God seen fit, and know he is still working. His death was not in vain and I truly believe that. He was put on this earth to make a change and he did. Many people eyes were opened today and if he saved one soul he did his job. But he will make a difference even in death as he did here on earth.. To all you people who have no heart. God bless you and keep you. As Devon had a duty here on earth so do you. You can say what you want now and repent later but remember. We do serve a forgiving God and as we pray for our sins he may very well forgive us but we still have to suffer the consequences. So carry on and be yourselves, only you can do it and al well as you do it. But when its your time, its your time and it aint nothing you can do about it. Nine times out of ten you will suffer worst than Devon did cause God dont like ugly and aint to found of pretty. And for you to mess with one of his Angels the way you do. Watch out.
