
Around 3:11 p.m., an unknown male climbed into a woman’s vehicle on the 3400 block of North Southport Avenue, near Southport and Roscoe, said police.
The offender tried to force the woman to drive him to a secondary location, but when the female victim started screaming at him, the offender stole a Blackberry cell phone from the car and fled the scene on foot, said police.
The suspect was described as a male black wearing a brown ski jacket.
Moments after the incident at Southport and Roscoe was reported, an eyewitness saw a man walking through an alley behind the 1300 block of West Eddy Street.
The tipster said a black man wearing a brown ski jacket with a logo on the right side of his coat, appeared to be checking out garages and backyards in the area.
The suspect was last seen walking northbound through a gangway next to 1341 West Eddy Street.
At 3:33 p.m., police announced that a suspect matching the offender’s description was apprehended and the suspect was carrying a Blackberry cell phone.
Around 3:41 p.m., authorities said the victim positively identified the suspect as the man who jumped into her car and stole a cell phone.
