Alleged sexual assault in River North, tourist attacked in Lincoln Park

Two alleged assaults committed by two different alleged offenders, in two different neighborhoods, were reported Sunday morning.

The first incident occurred some time this morning on the 600 block of North LaSalle Street in Chicago’s River North neighborhood.

Police did not give a specific time of occurrence and few details were available.

The alleged attacker was described as a male Hispanic, weighing approximately 250 to 280 pounds.

The second occurrence took place around 10:23 a.m. in Lincoln Park.

According to police, a female tourist from Los Angeles, California, was attacked on the 1600 block of North Halsted Street, near Halsted and North Avenue.

Investigators said the woman was assaulted behind the Steppenwolf Theater at 1650 North Halsted Street.

An unknown male grabbed the woman, fondled her, and rubbed against her, said police.

The offender was described as a male black in his 30s, about 6-feet-tall, and 150 pounds.

The suspect was wearing a gray sweatshirt and dirty khaki pants. The victim reportedly told police that her attacker smelled like he hadn’t bathed in a while.

One source said the offender may be a homeless man who frequents the area.

Police toured the area looking for the suspect, but as of 11:12 a.m., there was no indication an arrest had been made.
