West Side Robber escapes on 10-speed bike


Police are looking for a thief on a bike who committed a strong-arm robbery on Chicago’s West Side.

According to authorities, the crime occurred around 5:52 a.m. on the 5400 block of West North Avenue, near North and Linder in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood.

One dispatch report indicated the robbery happened near the Family Dollar Store at 5469 West North Avenue.

The suspect was described a male black on a 10-speed bike.

He was last seen wearing a green hooded coat and a black mask.

No further details are available.

  1. The new getaway vehicle by ghetto thugs with discerning taste...able to go through yards, alleys, stop on a dime and takes a curve with ease.

  2. T., I think "10-speed" thieves have been around for long, long time. The last few years or so, I have been hearing about these types of crimes, frequently.

    Since most people can no longer afford to pay for gasoline, using a bike as a getaway vehicle is probably more economical.
