Jennifer Hudson and Julian King. |
The Julian D. King Hatch Day school supply giveaway starts today, Sunday, at 10 a.m. at De La Salle Institute, 3434 South Michigan Avenue.
Hudson recently promoted the event while visiting WGCI, a Chicago radio station.
Hudson said she felt a school supply giveaway was the perfect way to honor her nephew’s memory, because he was really enthusiastic about learning.
In fact, according to Julia Hudson, Julian's mom, one of her son’s role models was Dr. Martin Luther King.
“Because of his size, people always said Julian was going to be a football player,” said Julia.
But Julia said her son wanted to be a doctor and used to insist that people call him “Dr. King”.
On October 24, 2008, Jennifer Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, her brother, Jason, and her nephew, were shot to death on the South Side of Chicago.
Today would have been Julian King's 10th birthday.
