Police said the shooting occurred on the west side of the bridge, near Wacker Drive and State Street, as the victim was walking northbound across the Chicago River.
Although some news report suggest the shooter approached the victim from behind, people at the scene said the shooter and the victim were walking side by side when the shot was fired.
The media has offered two very different descriptions of what the gunman was wearing.
The Chicago Tribune described the offender as a thin black male with a short Afro, wearing a blue dress shirt and black shorts.
However, according to NBC, eyewitnesses saw a man wearing light blue pants and a white shirt, flee the scene.
According to various news sources, the shooting victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, 251 East Huron Street, in serious-to-critical condition.
It has been reported that the victim was able to speak with detectives.
Authorities believe the victim was targeted.
