Brothers: Chicago cops used excessive force, police brutality at Archer Heights store

An explosive confrontation between a group of Chicago police officers and two brothers closing up shop at an Archer Heights neighborhood store, was caught on a surveillance camera.

Police say they were simply doing their job. The brothers the cops made contact with, say the officers crossed the line.

According to a My Fox Chicago News report, 18-year-old Adrian Ayala and 23-year-old Michael Ayala, were closing the 7-9-11 Food and Liquor store at 4848 South Archer Avenue, when the police pulled up around 1 a.m., Tuesday morning.

A physical altercation between the Ayala brothers and the police was caught on tape.

The brothers said they tried to explain the situation, but the officers wouldn’t listen to their explanation.

After Michael Ayala threatened to take legal action against the officers for their perceived misconduct, that’s when a police sergeant bashed Michael Ayala’s head against a plate glass door, allege the brothers.

In the surveillance footage, officers are seen forcing the Ayala brothers to the floor. One officer appears to kick Adrian Ayala several times, while other cops subdue him.

The Independent Police Review Authority has launched an investigation.

As a result of the August 16, 2011 incident, Adrian Ayala told Fox Chicago News that he feels betrayed by the Chicago Police Department.

  1. This item needs to be removed immediately, this is not news and none of the charges are founded in reality. This is simply rumor and innuendo being transmitted in the media without research or context.
The cops on this beat deal with gangbangers, punks and the mayhem they cause on a daily basis. If you watch the entire video you'll discover that the person making the accusations provoked the Police. You'll see this "victim" yelling and gesturing at the Police and then running back into the store.
What the media didn't show was the gothic letter tatoo that runs the entire length of this persons forearm; any bet it's a gang tatoo?
Please remove this, it's not news and doesn't warrant any attention.

  2. Chicago cops are nothing but punks and bullies with badges. So he yelled at them. Big deal! The cops yell and gesture at innocent civilians ALL THE TIME. I wonder how many of those cops have gang tattoos!

  3. Ah, generalization and stereotyping; an excellent basis for discourse and reaching the truth. With such bias against the Police and law and order its little wonder Chicago has become home to the highest number of gang members in the nation and turned into a very dangerous place to live.
By the way, whom do you call when your electronics are snatched on the subway or a flash mob mugs you on Michigan Avenue or your car is vandalized, gang members? You'll condemn the Police in this forum and then also expect them to keep you safe from criminals; no wonder the Police are fed up and struggle daily to do their jobs.
