The strong-arm robbery happened around 5:30 a.m. on the 700 block of West Cornelia Avenue, near Halsted and Cornelia, said police.
One report said the incident occurred at 750 West Cornelia.
A black male offender wearing a dark-colored t-shirt took the woman’s purse and her cell phone, said investigators.
An ambulance was called to the location, because the victim was “bleeding from the nose”, said police.
At 5:39 a.m., police had a possible suspect in custody.
The suspect was brought to Halsted and Cornelia, but according to an unconfirmed source, the detainee was not identified as the offender.
However, the suspect, who was questioned by police, has a non-serviceable warrant for his arrest in another county; and his last known address is in Rockford, Illinois, said police dispatch.
At the time of this report, the offender involved in the Cornelia Avenue robbery was still at large.

But that's the element the area attracts. You're free to walk down those streets any night of the week with a cocktail in your hand, or perch yourself on any stoop with with a six pack. Don't even have to brown bag it cuz' the cops are too busy writing parking tickets down at the other end. It's a 24/7/365 street party. No limits. Is anything less expected?

When you try to post comments like that, blaming the 'neighborhood',makes you sound like a bitter loser who wishes they lived here but doesnt.
