Thief breaks window at Boystown bike shop

Witnesses saw a man break a window at a Boystown, Lakeview neighborhood bike shop early Thursday morning.

Around 5:28 a.m., a thief broke the window at Kozy’s Cyclery at 3712 North Halsted Street, near Halsted and Bradley Place, said police.

One report said the crook stole a bike.

However, an officer at the scene said the bike was still inside the broken window.

The offender was described a shirtless black man in his thirties, carrying a tank top and wearing blue jeans.

The suspect was last seen headed westbound on Bradley Place.

No further details are available.

  1. All the "PC" in the world and all the positive loitering in the world will not change the criminal element preying on law abiding innocent citizens and businesses. Tougher laws, stiffer jail time, changes to the loitering & panhandling laws CC and people calling 911 for ANYTHING suspicious or ANYONE suspicious looking sends a message that you are being watched and we have had enough. Playing nice is like a Saturday Night Live skit to these ghetto thugs. They're laughing their butts off. All they want is what we have worked hard for and don't want to have to earn it. All they want are all the freebies we continue to give them. They don't want "nice"!

I got a chance to actually take my pepper spray out last week and threaten someone with it who was harassing me, screaming every 4 letter word known to man at me and following me as I walked down Granville...trust me, it worked. They turned and ran the other way. Start arming yourself with ANYTHING!

  2. I remember when this website was really respectable, now it only consist of what's going on in boys town and the black flash mobs thats been happening. Lets not forget about the gay sex at the beach, because that qualifies as news. Sorry tim but this stuff gets redundant after awhile. I know that these is more going on in this city that qualifies as news. This site should be renamed boystownbreakingnews or blackmobsbreaking news.

  3. Perhaps you need to read ALL the articles rather than just the first one that pops up.

It's called "Chicago News Report". IF you want all feely good news, try the Tribune, Sun times, ABC7 etc. They report the news that doesn't give citizens a heads up. This is the ONLY site that tells it like it is.

Try the next page, I think you might find something there about your "gay sex" there if that's what's important to you.

Keep up the good work Timothy:)

  4. Since black on white crime IS the biggest story in the country, I think it makes sense to keep tabs on it; especially when larger media outlets have decided not to report the facts for fear of offending.

  5. C'mon! Need I'd have to remind you: it says Chicago News Not Boystown News. LOL

  6. first off you must have not caught my sarcasm when i mentioned "gay sex" , i just think alot of this website consist of things that happen in boys town and less of whats happening citywide. i have nothing against the gay community. but i think there is more going on in the city that can be reported.

  7. Keep up the good work, Timothy. The businesses could care less about their loyal clientele and literally cross their arms and stick their nose in the air with a one word response when inquiring "what's going on around here?". The alimighty $ rules.

When I leave Chicago, I'll forever remember that stance.

Fortunately, we have a REAL news source here. No, the PC Trib and news channels don't count. They LOVE to sugar coat this city's REAL problems.

  8. P.S. Check out what MB Financial (bank no less) did for the corner of Halsted/Belmont this evening. Very commendable and very nice too.

Now if the purportedly gay owned, gay serving businesses along the Halsted strip could "man-up" like this, I might bring my $ back there.

On the main page there are stories about a shooting in Uptown, a serious car accident in Calumet Heights, a shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, and robberies in West Englewood and Marquette Park.

Sadly, no one seems to be interested in those stories, but that doesn't mean I am going to stop reporting the news in other areas.

Towanda, thank you for your support. Through my tears, the show must go on! LMAO!

  10. This is getting ridiculous. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Cops aren't willing to face the lawsuits, so it's up to the people. We're the ones who are suffering anyway.

I'm in Lakeview everyday. I work at a retail store that busts one of these guys almost everyday, but they still keep coming back.
I've seen a group of them walk in a shop with pepper spray and hammers, grab armloads of clothing, threaten the 2 small framed girls working, walk out, then get straight on the CTA Redline. I even ran a thief down on foot, waved down a cop (white shirt mind you), he had to close his laptop at a stop sign and put out his cigar before he rolled the window down. When I told him I was in pursuit and literally pointed to the guy headed to the train, the cop said, "just let it go, it's not worth getting hurt. Your boss isn't going to pay your hospital bills". After I told the cop it was my store and I wanted to prosecute, he said,"oh, um....do you want a ride back to the store?". **side note: An officer did come to the store because we wanted to fill out a report. When he got there, he said we didn't need to fill one out. He opened his cell, and walked around shopping.

I remember when the police got stuff done. Skull cracks and such.... now nothing. These are sad times in Chicago.
