Lightning strikes, damages Lincoln Square building; storm-related fire reported in Edgewater
Lightning struck a North Side condo building, causing significant damage, said police.
At approximately 4:14 a.m., a citizen reported large amounts of debris at the intersection of Lincoln and Argyle.
Investigators said lightning hit a building at 4936 North Lincoln Avenue, causing bricks and various building materials to fall to the street below.
Around 4:42 a.m., an officer at the scene requested a building inspector. Officers were also trying to contact the building's owner.
Did lightning start a fire in Edgewater?
In a related, but unconfirmed news story, lightning reportedly struck an Edgewater neighborhood apartment building, around 3:32 a.m.
According to police dispatch, lightning hit the building at 1058 West Glenlake Avenue and started a fire.
However, that dispatch report was never confirmed.
