Cops: Robbery outside Loop hotel, may be related to 2nd crime
Monday, June 25, 2011, around 10:52 p.m., a robbery occurred in front of a downtown Chicago hotel, said police.
According to police dispatch, a strong-arm robbery, in which a woman's purse was stolen, happened outside Allegro Hotel at 171 West Randolph Street.
A passerby notified authorities, said police.
The offender, who managed to get away, was described as a twenty-something-year-old black men with dreadlocks.
About an hour later, and several blocks north of the Randolph Street caper, a strong-arm robbery occurred on the 400 block of North LaSalle Street, near LaSalle and Hubbard Streets, said police.
The offender was described as a black man, approximately 20-years-old, about 5'8" with a medium build, and his hair was styled in dreadlocks.
Police said they believe the Randolph Street robbery and the LaSalle Street robbery are related.
Around 11:56 p.m., officers detained a suspect at the intersection of Chicago and State Street.
The man matched the aforementioned descriptions, with the exception that he was wearing a baseball cap, said police.
Authorities took the suspect back to LaSalle and Hubbard to see if the victim could identify him.
It's unclear if a positive identification was made.
