Some time around 6:28 p.m., a suspect snatched a woman's handbag on the 3300 block of North Halsted Street, near Halsted and Aldine.
When the offender snatched the woman’s property, a crowd of people, described as a "mob", gave chase, said police.
The offender, a male black teenager, was wearing a white t-shirt and a baseball cap.
According to one report, the suspect dropped the woman’s purse in a nearby alley on Aldine Avenue.
It’s unclear if anything was taken from the woman’s purse.

Two bicycles were stolen from the 3300 block of North Sheffield Avenue, around 6:33 p.m.
Two black male suspects, between 16 to 18-years-old, stole the bikes and headed northbound on Clark Street, said police.
One thief was wearing a white t-shirt, and the other suspect was wearing a blue cap and a gray t-shirt.
Police said the crook in the white t-shirt has a shaved or bald head.
The thieves stole a purple mountain bike and a purple and blue Schwinn bicycle, said authorties.
If you witnessed this crime, or see anyone in the area matching these descriptions, please call the police.

When people help each other, these ghetto thugs will first look to see if there is a group of people around who may just run them down and hold them until the police arrive and MAY think twice about committing his lowlife crimes! We have to start standing up to these ghetto thugs and stop worrying about being all PC. The time for being nice is way OVER because it's NEVER ENOUGH!

People are sick of all this crime and really, many are tired of being pc, so according to the First amendment, that would be freedom of speech, which is the freedom to speak freely without censorship, you want the owner of this blog, which is a PRIVATELY run blog and the commenters to watch what they say? I don't see ANYONE using the"N" word, which is offensive to most people. Honestly, there are black people- fine people who might be working class, or upper class- who come here to be welcomed and fit in with the respectful codes we live by in Lakeview.

You seem to think neighborhoods shouldn't be protecting themselves from ghetto thugs. You seem to think residents helping other residents when they are a victim of a crime in progress isn't the right way to do things. OldFriend - I started to believe that this blog reflected the thoughts of the majority of Chicagoans, however I am now realizing that it's the same few individuals commenting. The people who typically respond on this blog are a little over the top to say the least, but behind their (possible) racial mantras lies some truth. We (I am an educated black male from Washington D.C.) need to take responsibility for our own culture/people. It sounds like Chicago is a complete unbelievable mess right now. Frankly, I couldn't care less what Towanda or Skokie Swift has to say about "Black Thugs" or "Animals" etc. It is our job to condemn this type of behavior not theirs. Where the hell is Jessie Jackson and the dozens of other black leaders who are quick to protest "racism" against black??? They (we) need to be protesting this type of violence and not just bc it's in a white neighborhood, but violence in general. Towanda I am tired too of this crap, probably more than you and Skokie combined. Enough is indeed enough! It is time that we stop making excuses for our children and started taking action to correct our own people, because we have a problem plain and simple. There is no need to sugar coat it..the black community (my community)needs to have a serious conversation with ourselves and change the path that our culture is headed down. Im not sure about Chicago but, I do know that there are several blacks like I who are voicing this concern and trying to make a difference. ReplyDeleteWell, you have given me hope. I have been saying over & over again that it starts at HOME, that the black community has to help as well. I very rarely hear anything positive coming out of the black community in Chicago when addressing the black on black crime or the crime happening throughout the city. They seem to blame it on racism, poverty, discrimination and the economy. Many people are poor and are suffering but are NOT committing the crimes in this city. I simply think the black community needs to "own" it, stop blaming everyone and start doing something to stop it. Most of it IS being committed by black people. I have said the behavior needs to change. I have also suggested community involvement to take back their streets and not let these ghetto thugs keep them scared. I have yet to refer to the ghetto thugs as "black" thugs though. Hell, I've even called a white criminal a ghetto thug on this blog. Same with hispanics. In that regard, a ghetto thug is a ghetto thug to me. I have had people(blacks) threaten me on this blog and call me some pretty racists things as well. They don't seem to be reading the entire comment, only picking out "buzz" words. I do think much of the trouble comes from SOME Sec 8 residents, some from the many many unregulated SRO'S and certainly don't think welfare is helping. Babies having babies is not helping either. What the solution is? Who knows. A couple things are certain, it STARTS AT HOME and people are pretty fed up. That change you're talking about is taking to long.

I'm on this blog for many reasons, one of which is so I am made aware of where the crime is happening and can than, be on alert. I am an older woman and I'm sure you would want your mom to be on alert as well. I also have an opinion and a voice, which I like to express. I have not called an ENTIRE race "ghetto thugs". People know exactly who is causing the problems throughout this city and in my opinion, it is NOT an entire race..it is ghetto thugs of any shape size or color.
