42-year-old Marciea Adkins, a Chicago 911 operator, was killed in Bucktown when a suspect driving a stolen Range Rover struck her vehicle, said police.
The horrific incident happened around 6:15 a.m., on the 2100 block of West Armitage, near the intersection of Armitage and Hoyne Avenues.
After the crash, the suspect purportedly jumped from the SUV and attempted to flee on foot.
Prior to the high-speed police car chase, officers stopped the stolen Range Rover near Blackhawk Street and Elston Avenue.
When the police got out to approach the suspect, the driver reportedly threw the car in reverse, striking the police vehicle.

Marciea Adkins was rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
According to one source, the driver of the stolen Range Rover is a black boy in his teens, who was reportedly high on drugs at the time of the crash.
Very solicitous of his well being, aren't they, judging by the picture. Nothing but the finest treatment for our murderers.
ReplyDeletePete, I'm sure they would love to drop that scum in the garbage; but then, they wouldn't have a job.
ReplyDeleteVehicular homicide laws need to be changed so they are stiffer than they are. It's always innocent people these high and drunk idiots hurt or kill when they crash into someone else. Notice how he doesn't look like he has a scratch on him?
ReplyDeleteThis is just a shame.
I saw this entire thing happen. By far, the worst thing I've ever seen. This poor woman had clearly passed away while they were trying to remove her from the car. Just horrific. God bless her.
ReplyDeletesuch a shame, he was just about to turn his life around.
ReplyDeleteHe was high as a kite!
ReplyDeleteFrom the Tribune:
"A 16-year-old boy was drunk and high on Ecstasy when he allegedly stole a car in the Old Town neighborhood, leading to a traffic crash about a mile away that killed a Chicago police dispatcher returning home from her shift, prosecutors said today.
Harrison drank vodka, took ecstasy and smoked marijuana at a party before he saw a motorist get out of the Range Rover, Assistant State’s Attorney Chris Costello said. Harrison jumped into the running vehicle and sped off, “committing numerous traffic violations,” Costello said. Harrison jumped into the SUV at 150 West North Avenue, police said.
his blood-alcohol content was 0.186 percent, more than twice the legal limit
Harrison is a sophomore at Urban Prep Charter Academy in Garfield Park, where he is the quarterback of the football team and a “very bright student,” according to Assistant Principal Ron Bryant.
Costello said Harrison has two juvenile convictions in Kane County, both for possession of a stolen motor vehicle."

Now watch for a lawsuit against the idiot who got out of his car & left the keys in it with the engine running!
shame on that man who left the car unlocked AND running as bait. What did he expect?
ReplyDelete"Honor" student? I'm surprised his mom didn't say he was a member of Mensa..sure glad they're charging this "genius" as an adult.
ReplyDeleteAnd i'm sure he was working on his GED too. Give him the death penalty!!! Oh wait...
ReplyDeleteThis so so, such a terrible waste. This young man had so much to offer his community...he was a beacon of hope. My thoughts and prayers go out for his family they must be ashamed.
ReplyDelete@ Anon 10:26pm, I totally agree. I was so mad when I heard some stupid yuppie granola nut left his car running to get coffee. I hope this man who left the car running will live with this blood on his hands. Shame on him!
ReplyDeleteActually, that person WAS pretty stupid but consider this. Many of us were raised in a time when we didn't even lock our doors let alone take the keys out of our car. Some people still have those rose colored glasses on in a time when if you even look at someone the wrong way, they'll beat the crap out of you. Oh for the good old days! Many of us can remember when crime was just about non existant, many of you today don't have a clue about that. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteTowanda, crime has always been around and never taken a break. Maybe you were just raised in a community with little crime, because i seem to remember even more crime back where I grew up. Crime is nothing new to this city.
ReplyDeleteHe is lucky Ms. Adkins Family isn't trying to hunt down members of His Family to extract righteous retribution.
ReplyDeleteIf it was my Family member killed I sure would be.
After all - they could have aborted him long ago and this would never have happened.
One reason I feel abortion should always be legal.
