Unlike the civil rights protests in the 60s, today's anti-violence marches on Chicago's South and West Sides are all frosting and no cake.
Despite the impassioned political rhetoric, there is no real ongoing commitment to change.
Although some marchers are undoubtedly well-intentioned, I question whether or not they really understand what it takes to halt the Juggernaut of violence that is literally crushing the black community.
You cannot stamp out generational violence with a pep-talk. Sporadic keep-the-peace rallies and barbecues are not going to convince an uneducated, sociopath that he needs to put down his gun and pick up a book.
Until attitudes and perceptions change in black community, Chicago should brace itself for more ineffectual protest and even more violence.
A banner with JJ jr and his wife? They sure saw an opportunity to grandstand.

ReplyDeleteMarches??? They've been doing that for years and you see how affective that's been. Try marching on the homes of the parents who don't care about the kids they bring into the world. Try marching around the ghetto thug gang bangers on their corners. Try doing some positive loitering at NIGHT and let the ghetto thugs know YOU ARE NOT AFRAID OF THEM instead of hiding behind closed doors and curtains at night. Try something new, those marches are not working.
