Uptown shooting on Hazel Street, bullet hits occupied vehicle
Sunday, June 19, 2011, at approximately 11:53 p.m., gunshots were fired on the 4500 block of North Hazel Street, near Hazel and Sunnyside.
A witness saw a black man with a light complexion and dreadlocks, fire several shots near Hazel and Sunnyside, said police.
Investigators found shattered glass in the area of the shooting.
According to one source, the shooter may have been aiming at a group of women who were walking westbound on Sunnyside Avenue.
At 12:02 a.m., police announced that a red SUV was struck by gunfire.
A female passenger, believed to be in her twenties, was covered in broken glass, said police.
The exact location of the red SUV is unclear. However, according to police dispatch, a shot up vehicle was located on the 3200 block of North Broadway, near Broadway and Belmont.
At 12:19 p.m., investigators were still canvassing the area of Hazel and Sunnyside for shell casings.
Surveillance cameras on 900 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, may have caught the shooting on tape, said authorities.
