One robbery occurred on the 600 block of North Lake Shore Drive, near Lake Shore Drive and Ohio Street.
Five to six male blacks, one wearing a red hat, attacked a citizen and took their cell phone and a camera, said police.
After the robbery, the crooks ran southbound on Lake Shore Drive.
According to unconfirmed reports, more than one person was robbed in the Streeterville neighborhood. Some of the robberies may have occurred at Oak Street Beach, 1000 North Lake Shore Drive.
Sources have confirmed two robbery victims, but there may be as many as five.
At one point, police were using a helicopter to search for the robbery suspects.
At 9:09 p.m., police were called to 625 North Michigan Avenue.
According to police dispatch, a flash mob of fifteen to twenty black males, were blocking the sidewalk and refusing to let citizens pass.
Several people reported the incident to the police.
At 9:17 p.m., police announced that the crowd was dispersing.
I was jogging in the area tonight. I saw a police car drive up to the beach 500? North Lakeshore Dr with 3 men in suits in the back and the police pulled over some teens, hands on the car, but it wasn't them.

Tip- don't wear a suit.

ReplyDeleteWhere I work in a restaurant in River North two tourists have been beaten up and robbed literally in front of our restaurant door in the past two weeks. These were early evening like 9pm.
ReplyDeleteI go home after work today and get some food 'to go' at a restaurant where I live in Lakeview around 7pm. While walking down Broadway south of Belmont about 6 to 8 ghetto youth are attacking two people. Tons of police, thanks for being fast Chicago Police.
My friend goes to work at about 5am and when he got to the train stop at Belmont in Lakeview this morning the parametics are helping someone that just got beat up and robbed by ghetto youth.
How many people have been attacked nearby - nearby by meaning a several block area, my apartment in Lakeview in the past several weeks that I know of. Oh maybe 8-10.
How many people in River North have been attacked nearby where I work? Oh maybe 10 to 15.
It is out of control.

Well Jesse Jackson basically said due to the "high unemployment rate and racial tensions", the ghetto roaches have a right to act the way their acting. And there's absolutely nothing we can do about it.

ReplyDeleteEven if you are one of the good blacks, the fact of the matter is that a large segment of the black community is racist and violent. There is a reason why so many people dislike blacks, and it is because a large segment of the black community condones this violence and protects the perps, even if you don't.
Frankly I'm starting to feel like the Asian guy. I'm a 39 year old white male and finding that just about 100% of the harassment and general aggravation I've experienced living the past 20 years in New York and Chicago has been due to black ghetto kids behaving like animals. It's gotten to the point where I just avoid them as much as I possibly can. It's unpleasant at best and frightening at worst. I don't bother ANYONE and would like to just be able to go about my life in relative peace and quiet without dealing with this sort of garbage all the time.

ReplyDeleteSooooooooooo sad!! We need to stop cutting programs that help ALL of our youth, starting with education. We need to put more money into education and social services, not less. Either way, it's going to cost. Being reactive and spending more money on prisons and cops and insurance or being proactive and spending the money up front where it can do some good for these young people and our society? The choice seems obvious. Parents, even good ones, need help raising their kids in today's violent world. Let's help those who need it and keep our cities safe for everyone. CEO's don't need the tax breaks and money but citizens do need the resources! I blame Bush and all the head-in-the-sand-finger-wagging right wingers for this mess! They need a wake up call! Maybe this will be it, who knows? But I think we're in for MUCH MUCH worse before it gets better.

ReplyDeleteI visited Chicago two years ago and absolutely loved it. Planned on coming back this week with my mother. She's active but in her seventies....Sad to say, I didn't want to take the chance that she would be a victim of the nonsense currently going on in Chicago. When I heard that it was reaching Michigan Ave, I canceled our trip. Very sad to have done so. So yes, if others react as I did, you will have fewer tourists this year.
ReplyDeleteOh and as to the person complaining that you need to put more money into this mosh pit in order to restore order....blaming Republicans....give me a break. Chicago has spent more money than any other city in the nation on this problem. What needs to be done is for people to STOP making excuses for bad behavior. Rather than rewarding individuals for having countless children that they cannot/will not take care of, we need to encourage people NOT to have children. I would love to see money given to young women who choose not to have children. It's all about the parents and in Chicago, there are too many kids who didn't have them.

These Flash mob robberies are becoming more and more frequent, not just in the U.S. but all over the world. It also seems that it's a minority group of individuals (primarily black / African American) that are grouping up to commit these crimes. Some have said that the crime has nothing to do with poverty and have dismissed it from from their research. I tend to think that poverty stricken people are more apt to commit crimes in desperate times than middle class or rich. Sure, there's still white color corporate crimes that happen within the ranks of middle class and rich, but normally nothing as violent as the poverty class. At any rate, I think more people should be looking at the 2 primary pieces of evidence more: 1.) Minority groups, 2.) Poverty level.... and it might help authorities get closer to solving these crimes or finding a solution to detour them.
