Several injured by falling tree branch - Fallen trees blocks streets - Lightning strikes fire


Several people were hurt after a huge tree branch fell on them, said police.

The incident occurred on the 5200 block of North Leavitt Street, around 8:50 p.m.

Paramedics were called to the scene at 5228 North Leavitt.

The severity of the injuries were not disclosed.

However, at least one person was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois.

At 8:55 p.m., a tree fell on the 5300 block of North Kenmore Avenue.

According to the 911 caller, the tree was blocking the street at 5340 North Kenmore.

The tree knocked down a street light and damaged nearby wires, said police.

No injuries were reported.

Around 9 p.m., a fire erupted in an alley behind 2615 West Jerome Street, said officials.

Lightning struck a tree branch, causing the fallen limb to hit a transformer, said police.

The Chicago Fire Department was notified.

No injuries were reported.

Lightening toppled a tree on the 4400 block of North Marine Drive, around 9:07 p.m., said police.

According to a 911 caller, the tree was blocking the entire street at 4405 North Marine.

Because the tree was blocking a bus route, CTA officials were notified.

No injuries were reported.

  1. Very scary storm for sure! Our balcony doors were shaking. Unbelievable lightening and sheets of rain. Quite a sight when you're high up.
