Chicago Breaking News website moves to Tribune
There was a time when Chicago Breaking News was all that, and then some. The content was always fresh and updates were posted like clockwork.
A few months ago, I noticed a remarkable difference in the news site's material. The most glaring difference was the amount of time that would lapse between new posts.
Inevitably, I began to wonder if the website had been hit with massive layoffs or was experiencing financial difficulties.
Today, my suspicions were heightened when I clicked on Chicago Breaking News' old URL, ChicagoBreakingNews.com, and was redirected to the Chicago Tribune.
I know Chicago Breaking News belongs to the Tribune, but what happened to their old URL? Why have they moved? What's going on?

Dunno, but I stopped reading it a long time ago. Unless linked to a specific article, I try to avoid that site...
ReplyDeleteFailing and refusing to report the race of the obvious offenders in black crime-related articles, will turn off a hefty amount of readers and decrease your viewership!
ReplyDeleteChicago Breaking News started falling off months back when they started policing the comments and blocking certain users from expressing their opinions. From what I hear, a certain group of people started pulling the race card and b*tching to the Tribune about the comment sections on the site following the articles. Like the black teens who assaulted the motorcyclist downtown, the comment section on that article was TURNED OFF... along with countless other articles about black crime in Chicago as of late.
From 2008 through mid 2010, Chicago Breaking News was the top discussion forum about crime in the city, with a huge amount of comments. Comments and reactions from everyday people are the sole reason why readers flock to articles on blogs. Especially articles pertaining to crime and celebrity gossip. Articles relating to those kind of topics will always have heated discussions. Trolls and flame-baiters are part of the blogosphere life. And no I don't condone personal vulgar attacks from a poster to another. But taking away comments from people who keep their post relating to the article without personally attacking another user vulgarly, is just not right! Everyone has a right to an opinion. And that's why the Tribune is falling off... BIG TIME!!
It's my understanding that it didn't make good economic sense for the Trib to run two news website. Chicago Breaking News is popular but I doubt it was making any money. By absorbing Chicago Breaking News, the Trib probably hopes to gain more readers.
ReplyDelete@ Skokie, websites and bloggers have to abide by certain Terms of Service agreements. Race-baiting and name-calling adds nothing to an intelligent discussion, and it completely turns advertisers off. If people continually break the TOS agreement, the Tribune did the right thing when they closed the comments.
ReplyDeleteYeah, ChicagoBreakingNews.com, CLTV.com, WGNtv.com, chicagotribune.com and ChicagoNow.com is ALL THE SAME ARTICLES FROM THE SAME COMPANY. I never understood the reason for all of these sub-divisional sites from the Tribune anyway.
ReplyDeleteNow when you click on the site, its says Chicago Tribune Breaking News.
It looks like someone tried to corner the market and FAILED!
ReplyDelete@Mary- Completely not true! I have a few friends who work in advertising, and from my understanding, all advertisers care about is eyeballs (clicks). High-volume traffic and a high Alexa rating brings in the big bucks for major sites. If the advertisers get turned off by anything, it will be by the article/website itself, not the commenters. I read the New York Times, CNN, New York Post, all the time and they don't do what the Tribune does as far as turning off the comment sections on black crime. Especially CNN, those comments can reach into the thousands. Look at TMZ, Perez Hilton, and other ridiculous gossip sites, the comments there get even WORST... but is that stopping advertisers? I doubt it!
ReplyDeleteThe race-baiting mostly starts when people pull the race card, saying comments like "When are you going to report on the crime that white people do". Numbers and FACTS don't lie!
They have a story, complete with a mugshot, about someone named Ali who is charged with a hate crime. He supposedly slurred some blacks in an altercation at a gas station.
ReplyDeleteThey sure don't hesitate to identify a non-black in this crime of the century. Nor did they close the comments section.
The tsunami of black predatory behavior that's been going on gets minimized, ignored or rationalized away. They run a disproportionate share of photos of white arrestees, even when the crimes are relatively minor, so as to give the appearance of balance. Can't have a steady stream of black mugshots lest people detect a pattern. They don't just report news, they try to spin it.
Pete,
ReplyDeleteYou are Completely correct about the pictures. More white criminals are put up than black criminals for sure. The CBN/Trib must think their readers are stupid to not see that discrepancy even though it's glaring right at us. And really, if they did "have a steady stream of black mugshots" there just might be an uprising. They want us to keep those "rose colored glasses" on so we all think ALL is well in "Beirut by the lake".
To be fair, a lot of racist websites (chimpout, N-mania, etc.) have been linking to articles on the site for a while now. Those guys intentionally leave extremely inflammatory comments, and get all sorts of news blogs to shut down their comment sections...
ReplyDeleteGlad I found this. I was trying to figure out what was wrong with the site (in a technical sense ;) ) The new trib site doesn't display property with Firefox so I am done with it. :(
