Ghetto thug! That's a dangerous area over there. Many many SRO's with drunks and drug addicts/dealers hanging out. Walking to a restaurant over there, I was approached by a white lady in a wheel chair being pushed by a large black man, asked me if I wanted to buy some valium..$10 bucks a pill..told her I didn't do drugs...she said "too bad" and "rolled" past me to her next victim. I don't go over there anymore. Too many bums begging and drunks flat out on the curbs. 5 SRO's in a 3 block area over there...not cool! Too bad, there are some good restaurants there.

ReplyDeleteThis guy is the same height as Rumpelstiltskin, and he wants to be tough! I don't know if I should laugh or be on alert.
T., I lived in Uptown for years, but I never went into any of the restaurants in that area.
ReplyDeleteA couple of years ago, I was walking eastbound on Argyle from Broadway, when a guy starts eyeballing me. I had just left a friend's house and I was on my way to the gym in Margate Park.
When I got to the corner of Argyle and Winthrop, where the guy was standing, he took off running! LOL I think he thought I was an undercover cop. :-)
Skokie, bullets have a way of making people taller. LOL
ReplyDeleteExiting the Argyle Red Line station after dusk is like entering a real Night Of The Living Dead. It's usually quiet but once they obviously hear those train doors opening, they start creeping out from every alley and crevice. Never experienced anything like that -anywhere.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame. There are a couple of establishments up there I like to patronize but seeing cops looking for shell casings while leaving, the boarded up buildings, the rest with bars all over them......it's depressing - and dangerous. The only thing different than Detroit is people actually live there. Needs to be said.
Thanks for reporting this stuff. It's otherwise kept quiet. Most don't even know unless they've nearly been caught in the crossfire. Really a shame. On the lakefront no-less.
Good luck.
Personally, I don't know how the asian community puts up with all the riff raff there and I'm always surprised when a new business opens up. Very very scary area now:( I blame it on the SRO's and the type of people they're housing.
ReplyDeleteLOL yeah! But he won't be so tall when he gets caught and end up in the County, forced to take showers with Sugar Knight!!

Hey, I don't blame you! Those restaurants on Argyle had numerous of reports of health issues and license suspensions. Besides, taking a chance on some Egg Foo Young with octopus droppings smothered in cat piss, is not worth it dude!
Some of those restaurants are filthy. I've been in two of them - ONCE.
ReplyDeleteAt 5'3" and 130 pounds, he would definitely make someone a wonderful prison-wife.
