Random police calls: 06/19/2011
The following police calls were made June 19, 2011.
11:33 a.m. - A woman's purse was snatched in Chicago's Woodlawn community, said police.
The crime occurred on the 6100 block of South Ellis Street, said one report.
The thief was described as a black man in his twenties.
He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and black pants.

12:16 p.m. - A car accident was reported on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 31st Street.
The accident occurred in a northbound lane, said authorities.
Preliminary information indicated one person was bleeding from the head.
Police said a semi-truck with the words "Jones Motors" written on it, may have been involved in the crash.
The semi-truck left the scene of the accident, said police.

12:52 p.m. - An attempted robbery was reported in Chicago's West Elsdon neighborhood.
The incident took place on the 5700 block of South Keeler Avenue on the city's Southwest Side.
A black male teen, believed to be 15-years-old, approached a white male teen, also 15, and threatened to shoot him, said police.
The black male suspect said he had a gun and was going to kill the victim, said police.
Investigators said the suspect wanted the 15-year-old victim's iPhone.
The offender was last seen wearing an oversize, short sleeve, black t-shirt and tan cargo-style shorts. He has a dark complexion and is approximately 6-feet-tall.
After the attempted robbery, someone matching the would-be thief's description was spotted on the 5600 block of South Karlov Avenue.

1:21 p.m. - Gunshots were fired at a West Englewood neighborhood gas station.
A gunman opened fire on a group of people at the Marathon gas station at 7101 South Ashland Avenue.
According to one eyewitness account, a black male wearing a white t-shirt and a black vest, fired several shots, then ran northbound on Ashland.
However, a tipster who drove by moments after the shooting, saw a gunman in a red shirt chasing someone in a yellow shirt.
No one at the scene was physically injured, said police.

1:30 p.m. - A woman was robbed at gunpoint in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood.
The robbery occurred on the 2700 block of West Cortez Street, near Cortez and Washtenaw.
The victim was approached by a black male suspect carrying a gun wrapped in a t-shirt, said police.
The thief stole the woman’s purse.
The mugger is 5’9”, about 210 pounds, with a stocky build and a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and tan pants.
At 2:03 p.m., police recovered a purse in an alley on the 2600 block of West Augusta Boulevard.
The purse had been “picked clean”, said the officer who found the bag.

1:36 p.m. - A burglary was reported at a South Loop condo building.
Two black men, believed to be in their forties, broke into a unit at 680 South Federal Street, said police.
The alleged crooks were spotted loading items into a maroon Chevy van.
The van was last seen going southbound on Federal, then westbound on Polk Street.
Authorities ran the vehicle’s license plate, and according to their findings, the plate was reported “missing”.
