Markell Stribling shot to death in Chicago's Pullman neighborhood, Facebook friends plot revenge?

The violence in Chicago's black neighborhoods is a vicious, never-ending cycle.

A young man was shot to death and another male victim was injured by gunfire on the Far South Side of Chicago.

Late Friday night, Markell Stribling was shot several times in the chest on the 11700 block of South La Salle Street. When police arrived, Stribling was unresponsive.

He pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m.

A second male gunshot victim, who survived his injuries, was reportedly shot in the elbow.

Although Chicago Breaking News listed Stribling's age as 16, his Facebook page indicates he was born September 6, 1992, which means he was 19.

Stribling and the surviving victim were involved in a physical altercation with a third subject, when the third party pulled a gun and shot them.

Based on comments left on the decedent's social networking account, Stribling may have been involved in gang activity and his online friends seem to be plotting revenge.

"Damn Boi Boi!...We was jus talkin earlier today!!!..Dont ean trip!!!...U kno fam goin take care of it!!...R.I.P MARKELL," said one of the slain teen's friends.

Another Facebook buddy, who actually posted his phone number online, asked anyone who can identify the shooter, to call him.

  1. I don't know if I should laugh at the way you introduced your report in this post, or shake my damn head at the victim's idiotic friends thats basically pre-snitching on themselves for their so called revenge plot on Facebook. Either way... my condolences goes out to the family. But what else can you expect from a neighborhood like Roseland?

  2. Skokie Swift, I am so sick of hearing about young black men killing each other, I could explode! Today's generation of African-Americans (including the girls) seem to live and breathe violence.

  3. @Timothy- Agree! Its a very sad and sick matter that just seems to cannonball through each decade at an even more disturbing rate. Sadly, the majority of today's generation of black youth have parent (non-plural) that is either 16 years older MAX, the father is either not around, locked up, or even perhaps have no idea who he is. These kids are being raised by rap videos instead.

  4. This may sound a bit controversial, but I call them the "crack generation".

Most of these children were born into households whose family structures were obliterated by the crack epidemic in the 80's and 90s. The level of violence we are seeing in our streets today is a direct result of the evolution of a severe sickness, left undiagnosed and untreated.

  6. What else can you expect from a neighborhood like Roseland? Let me tell you. You can expect University of Illinois graduates, you can expect top athletes in the city, you can expect lawyers, doctors, epidemiologist, professors, business people, teachers and GREATNESS!! That is what YOU can expect. So who is this from Skokie that speaks out of ignorance. Surely you do not know the future leaders that I know. You are limited in your exposure that is solely dependent upon the media and its portrayal. Have you ever been to Roseland? Have you met the families and youth there? Before you make an implication about what can be expected from Roseland, know all the facts. Then you can make an intelligent judgement of what can be expected from Roseland. By the way this is written by someone who lived in Roseland with a degree in Biology persuing a Master's in Biology & Mathematics and works very hard with youth in the Roseland commmunity that are defying the statistics and portrayal of those outside the community daily. God Bless all those who have a misconception and misunderstanding of youth and families in Roseland. I am so sorry that you cannot put your ignorance aside to pursue truth. Bless you anyway.
