While CTA is trying to decide what color curtains to hang in their soon-to-be newly redecorated train stations, another CTA passenger was robbed on their property.
The incident occurred around 7:46 p.m. on the CTA platform at the Ashland/Lake Street “L” station at 1601 West Lake Street. The station services the Green and Pink Lines.
The victim was accosted by six black boys between the ages of 12 and 15-years-old, said police.
Authorities are calling the incident a “robbery”, but it isn’t clear what the thieves stole from their victim.
After the mugging, the thieves ran down the stairs from the platform, and fled in an unknown direction.
If the crooks live in the area, there are several apartment buildings and low-income housing complexes near the crime scene; allowing the thieves to make an easy getaway.
Thugs in training. I guess they go to the head of the class and make the Black community proud once again. No wonder I take Metra to Oak Park instead of the Green Line through Thugland.
ReplyDeleteIf you think this is something wait until CTA extends the Red Line to the far south side ghettos! Yuck!
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of crime at this station. It's a very dangerous place.
ReplyDeleteIt's not terribly brave to be both biased and anonymous at the same time. If you're concerned about your safety when riding the CTA, why not try calling or writing the CTA, the Aldermen who service the wards through which you travel, as well as the newly elected mayor. I've traveled to and from this stop everyday without incident, and you can bet if I had more concerns, I'd do more than whimper about it in the comments field of a blog post.
ReplyDeleteI always call and write CTA and elected officials. Most (i.e. 99.9%) of the time, I receive no response.
ReplyDeleteI changed health service providers to avoid the Green Line.
ReplyDeleteI call AND email the CTA..it falls on deaf ears and blind eyes! The CTA cares NOTHING about it's passengers.
ReplyDelete"Derek" you should not make an assumption that ALL commenters are "whimpering" on blogs. Some of us ARE very involved and do what we can to have our voices heard, a useless as that is sometimes.

ReplyDeleteWow! Now that's sad. I think a lot of people are being inconvenienced by the crime on CTA "L" trains. I stopped riding the trains many years ago.
Pace and Metra generally respond :), unlike CTA.
ReplyDeleteIf the aldermen can't help stop the overall crime, how can they assist us with CTA Crime? :(
