  1. My husband and I live at across the street from where this happened and saw the police activity. We didn't hear anything before the police arrived, and were unable to find any information in the local papers. Thanks for posting this - it answered our questions!

  7. Timothy, without YOU, we wouldn't have a clue about what is going on in our neighborhoods. Thank You for reporting what the mainstream media is silent about. Without YOU, we wouldn't be more award of our surroundings. We wouldn't be paying attention or getting more involved in our communities. Without YOU, we would continue to be apathetic. I know I am far more aware because of YOU! Thank you for this:)
I hope this person continues to get better but since that ghetto thug hasn't been caught, he's free to terrorize our neighborhood again. BE AWARE neighbors:) Be the "eyes and ears" for our community! Call 911 for ANYTHING! That's what they say at the caps meetings and that's what the Alderman says to do. CALL 911! If these ghetto thugs see that the community is involved, they'll move on.

  8. Any more info on why the perp stabbed the victim so many times in a robbery? Did the victim resist and fight? Was the perp on drugs so not thinking clearly? Was it a drug deal or something gone bad we are not aware of? I know it happens that people get hurt over a cell phone mugging, and perhaps I give crooks too much credit, but unless they are whacked out on drugs, I would think they're smart enough to not risk a murder charge over a minor robbery.

  9. To:ChicagoRob... Criminals are quick to resort to violence! You are just an object in the way of something they want and most will do anything to remove you from their path. After being violently attacked in the same neighborhood several years ago, I decided it was time to move on to a less dangerous place. Keep in mind that I had lived in that area for nearly twenty-five years, and it was a very difficult decision. But when the janitor of the building next door to me had been beaten to death over some quarters from the laundry machines... It was time to leave. Believe me when I tell you that there doesn't have to be a reason that normal people would understand. These criminals are animals, without care for the consequences of their actions.

  10. ChicagoRob, all the details I have were presented in the article. I was hoping mainstream media would provide more insight into what happened. So far, they haven't said a word about the Edgewater stabbing.

Thank you for the update! That's great news!

Here are similar crimes that happened in Edgewater:

Oct. 17, 2010, stabbing and robbery on Winthrop --- http://www.chicagonewsreport.com/2010/10/edgewater-stabbing-robbery-6100-n.html

Jan. 5. 2011, stabbing at Thorndale train station --- http://www.chicagonewsreport.com/2011/01/man-stabbed-at-edgewater-thorndale-l.html

People being stabbed during a petty robbery is more common than some people think.

  13. Loyola usually sends Emails regarding major crimes as a warning to the students. They did NOT send an email about this incident, probably because the victim is not a student. Please advise any young friends you have in the neighborhood to walk with a buddy at night.

  14. When crimes go unreported, as they do in the mainstream media, people have a tendency to have a false sense of security and than perhaps become victims. "Buddies" pepper spray, flashlights, porch lights being left on and community involvement, not just some of the community, but the entire community, will keep the entire community safe. "It takes a village"..not to sound corny but it's the truth. Strength in numbers changes the dynamics.

Timothy, I would gladly pay you for the services you provide the innocent people of this city...hey, we should submit donations to you so you ALWAYS report the "truth" to us. Hell, "news reporters" get paid to not report the crimes so you should get paid for reporting the crimes...I'm just saying;)

  15. It doesn't help that the street lights have been off on this block for weeks and a certain restaurant holds raging parties till all hours of the mornig with sketchy looking people drinking and smoking outside the building.

  16. What restaurant is that?

  17. Call 311 on the lights out. The lights were out on Sheridan Rd for a whole block on both sides, I called 311 and they were out there in 2 days.

Once Harry Osterman gets in office, I would put a call into him about that place..actually, I would get the whole block to start calling..can't hurt.

  18. that block, i believe, is in patrick o'connor's ward. i used to live there and found the alderman's staff very helpful and responsive. i believe the way to combat violence is to communicate your fears and concerns to the alderman's office and to community groups and to landlords if you rent and business owners. talk about it in a constructive and concerted way and something will be done.

  20. I know the victim, and so do a lot of locals; he is a bartender at a neighborhood bar. Also, he is in his mid-thirties. He was asked for money, he said no, and then was immediately stabbed- almost fatally. He walked home and his girlfriend called 911..emergency surgery to save his arm and his life; almost his entire blood supply was drained from his body as he walked down the street. The victim is still in the hospital today.

Thank you for sharing that information. Please let your friend know that everyone here is pulling for him. Tell him that he is in our thoughts and our prayers.
