Mob armed with hammer and mace, rob man on Near North Side street

What appeared to be a brawl outside a Near North Side fast food restaurant, was actually a violent robbery in progress.

Around 8:17 p.m., a McDonald’s security guard at 10 East Chicago Avenue, told police ten to twelve people were fighting outside his store. The guard said one of the people involved in the melee was armed with a hammer and was "swinging it at people".

Two of the aggressors involved in the incident were described as African-American men in their early twenties.

One suspect is approximately 6’ to 6’2” and was last seen wearing a white vest and carrying a hammer. The second suspect was wearing a tan or beige coat.

At 8:40 p.m., I discovered that what the McDonald’s security guard described as a fight, was really a mob of thieves attacking their victim.

Apparently, the man with the hammer and another man armed with mace, stole the victim’s coat and a red “flip” cell phone.

After the robbery, the offenders fled the scene via the Chicago Red Line “L” station, said police.

No juries were reported and the bandits are still at large.

  1. These ghetto thugs are scum! We need "equalizers" to protect ourselves. That MacDonalds needs the National Guard as security.
    Let's see, weapons used to commit crimes;
    GUNS
    Mace
    Hammers
    Sticks
    Bottles
    Knives
    Baseball bats

    What else?

    Weapons used to PROTECT ourselves;
    Pepper spray

    Anything else?

  2. The Red Line should be renamed the Crime Line. Operating around the clock to bring the bountiful wealth of the northside closer to the southside trash. Are there cameras and recorders in all of the redline stations? Perhaps the new mayor could put this on his list.
