Police are investigating a shooting that occurred steps away from a Chicago Park District field house in Uptown.

Apparently, the shooting victim told police several men or teenagers starting shooting westbound from the middle of the street, after exiting the Clarendon Park Community Center at 4501 North Clarendon Avenue.

It’s unclear if the intended victim was actually shot.

According to unconfirmed police dispatch reports, one offender was wearing a black leather jacket, one suspect was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, and a third man was dressed in a green hooded sweatshirt.

So far, police have recovered one shell casing and have interviewed several eyewitnesses.

A portion of Wilson Avenue was closed, while investigators searched for evidence.

  1. Uptown again. The new alderman who gets elected needs to make cleaning up Uptown from the getto thugs a priority. It's becoming the new 'south side"

  2. After last summer's shooting near N. Hazel and Windsor, I've actually seen a considerable increase in police presence around this area. Particularly around Clarendon Park and nearby streets, but mainly during the day and it seems to wind down before 8:00 pm. I hope they would continue to do more rounds as long as the center is open and before midnight.

  3. I used to workout at Margate Park's gym. One summer they were closed for renovations. Their members were told to visit the Clarendon Park Community Center.

After one visit, I decided to stick to walking and jogging on the lakefront.

I'm actually surprised there haven't been more shootings at that location.
