When 45-year-old Andre Baker of Chicago's East Chatham neighborhood was pushing his red snow blower down the 5600 block of South Shields Avenue in Englewood, I'm sure it never occurred to him that someone would threaten his life over a motorized shoveling device - but that's exactly what happened.
I heard part of this story over the police radio last night, but there weren't enough details to present a complete story.
Thanks to the wonderful folks at WGN, I have a more complete picture.
January, 4, 2011, around 1:40 a.m., Mr. Baker was approached by four African-American men in a white four-door car. One of the men asked Baker if his snow blower was for sale.
When Baker told the hoodlums the equipment wasn't for sale, three of the offenders exited the vehicle, stole $27.00 from Baker's pocket, shot him in the thigh, and stole his snow blower.
Baker was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
No arrests have been made.
