Thief Steals Volkswagen in Lakeview

Late in the evening, a car thief was spotted in a North Side Chicago neighborhood.

The auto-theft occurred around 11:22 p.m., near the intersection of North Fremont and West Dakin Streets in Chicago's Lakeview community.

The crook was described as an African-American man; an accomplice may have been driving a black or dark-colored Chevy.

A witness, who is also credited with calling the police, said the car thief broke into a black Volkswagen through the rear of the vehicle, climbed into the front seat, and took off.

Police are investigating.

    It's beginning to look like 2011 will surpass crime from last year..but than "crime is down"...
