Cabdriver Robbed at Near West Side Gas Station

A Checkered cabdriver was stuck-up at a Near West Side gas station, early this morning.

The robbery occurred around 1:40 a.m. at the Marathon gas station at 1121 South Jefferson Street, near the intersection of Jefferson and West Grenshaw Streets.

The taxi driver said two African-American men stole twenty dollars and his car keys.

One suspect was wearing a red jacket and the other offender was wearing a blue jacket.

After the robbery, the crooks ran eastbound on Grenshaw and took off in an unknown direction on Clinton Street.

  1. Pretty soon, they will be rolling up the sidewalks at a certain time in this country and not even cab drivers will be out. Seems they are getting hit a lot lately. $20 dollars, there isn't much you can buy with that anymore..except drugs!

  2. If the robberies weren't enough, you should hear all the 911 calls placed by cabdrivers after a customer refuses to pay or jumps out of the cab and runs.
