According to one 911 caller, four Hispanic men assaulted the driver near the intersection of West Walton Street and North Hermitage Avenue.
At 8:42 p.m., one of the four offenders was arrested on the 900 block of West Hermitage Avenue. Other arrests may have been made, but could not be confirmed.
Police did not disclose a motive for the attack and the cabdriver’s condition is unknown.
Is it even possible to have just one day & night without violence? I mean, even the middle east has cease fires. Can we be that mean, desperate and hateful?
ReplyDeletetowanda, the south side of Chicago is boiling over with violence this evening. Shootings, stabbings, beatings. One kid was savagely beaten by a group of gang members. Before the attack, the offenders yelled gang slogans. It's both sad and disgusting.

Not sure if anything blows my mind anymore but if you're saying it than I guess I better get ready;) Is it just me or is the south side being run by hateful, evil ghetto thugs? Why aren't the communities of the south side and west side banning together to stop this? What about the good citizens who live there? How do we let these bottom feeders take over neighborhoods? Have we become that afraid of them that we simply look the other way? Close our blinds? Having an ex that lived in Detroit BEFORE it became what it is today, this is EXACTLY what happened to Detroit, are we going to let that happen here? Will the whites give up the city to these ghetto thugs? What are we, as a CITY, going to do to stop these violent people preying on us all? Come on people, get involved. Do something. See something, call 911. Hear something call 911. Gangs hanging around on corners..sorry, call 911! Fight back! carry something, anything but for the sake of this city, don't give in! Get rid of the graffiti..see it, call 311. DO SOMETHING!
ReplyDeleteI totally undersand why people move out of neighborhoods and give it up to scum but the scum have won when we do that and Chicago becomes Detroit. As a woman, I WILL defend myself, be it the full pop can I carry in my messenger bag or pepperspray. I may get injured but so will they. I WILL not just stand there and take it. We all should be thinking that way. Stop being the victim, make the scumbags the victim. OMG, I'm so pissed off at what these scumbag, bottom feeding parasites are doing to my city I could scream ((((()))))))
I saw some of this go down last night from my balcony. I saw the one they caught being drug away kicking at officers as he was thrown in the paddy wagon. A parked car was crashed into (I am assuming by the taxi driver) and there was another hispanic woman there and I thought she was with the guy that was arrested- they were fighting with each other as he was being dragged away.

ReplyDeletetowanda, the decline of south side and west side neighborhoods is a complex issue. There are many reasons the good people who live there, simply give up or move out.
ReplyDeleteThe police cannot protect them from the homicidal maniacs who live next door or down the street. If you call the cops (for any reason) and they show up at your door, word spreads quickly that you have been talking to the police, and you and your family become sitting ducks.
In the 80’s I had friends who lived in some of the rougher areas on the south side. Against my better judgment and my mom’s advice, I used to go to their neighborhood and hang out. The neighborhood thugs would sit on your car like they were paying your car note. If you tell them to move… they leave - come back - and break your windows or key your car.
During one visit, I was getting ready to leave and a gang fight erupted in the hallway and on the street. When I called the police the 911 operator said, verbatim, “Aren’t they out there every night? What do you want us to do about it?” Needless to say, the cops never showed up.
That was my first taste of what it’s like to live in those neighborhoods.
When it’s good versus evil, sometimes it’s not a question of being outmanned - it’s about being outgunned. Law abiding citizens aren’t allowed to carry guns - but the crooks are armed to the teeth. The thugs know the odds are stacked in their favor.
I suppose you're right Timothy. It's easy for me to say what I would do if I lived in an area that is infested with scumbags but I do think doing something is better than giving up the neighborhood and throwing in the towel because you think it's hopeless. Maybe Parents should also be held accountable when their underage kid commits crimes. In Albuquerque, if a kid tags property, the parents are also charged. It's amazing how that changes things. It's also very sad that guns speak louder than words and that the criminal element of this city is armed to the teeth while all we get is pepperspray.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of charging parents with the crime of repeat juvenile offenders. Love it! Love it! Love it! If we start throwing apathetic parents behind bars, a lot of things would change.
