Fight in CTA Red Line Subway; 1 Officer Injured

Starting at 9:08 p.m., authorities received at least six 911 calls regarding a “fight” in a CTA Red Line subway.

Subsequent reports indicated the so-called fight was actually related to a series of random attacks on CTA passengers.

According to the first 911 caller, there was a fight at the State/Lake train station, 188 North State Street.

Moments later, police dispatch told the responding officers a group of offenders were randomly attacking CTA passengers. Unconfirmed reports suggest several arrests were made; among the arrestees were several teenagers.

At least one police officer was injured at the scene.

  1. Does anyone wonder why the trains are packed for the morning & evening rush hour and than nothing? It's because the thugs go to work doing what they do best..robbing and terrorizing people. You'd think the CTA would realize this and do something about it, like less cars or more security. It's sure the reason I never ride the trains at night.

  3. Timothy, I think it would be great if one of the media outlets would do a report on crime on the CTA and the lack of protection we, the riders and the people who keep the CTA running, have to endure, in particular, the trains. We are just sitting ducks on these trains. How many times have you heard about crimes being committed on the buses as opposed to the trains? Seems the CTA really doesn't give a rats ass about the trains. Maybe we should just gather all the incidents you've reported on your site and send them to the CTA..wonder if they would even care?

  4. I believe this was a gang fight.

  5. Remember when there were conductors on trains? I realize that CTA was trying to save money by cutting the position, but certain lines are not safe after rush hour--we need more personnel than just an engineer.

  6. I do remember when there were conductors. At night, the car with the conductor was always considered the safest place on the train.

  7. That was crazy, they delayed the trains for like 40 minutes it took the police a very long time to respond to the incident and people should stop reporting false info they were fighting each other it wasnt random

  8. Dump the Daley Democratic Machine and start electing multi-political parties. As long as the Daley Democratic Machine is around, high crime will remain.

  9. Ok, I give. What does Daley and the "Democratic Machine" have to do with high crime and gangs? They are all over this country. Let's blame the politicians for EVERY little thing that happens and NOT take any responsibility for ourselves..Yeah right! IF parents would step to the plate and take responsibility for their children, IF they would participate in their children's lives. we wouldn't have gangs in the first place, at least we wouldn't have the number of gang members there are in this city. You blame the politicians for everything and than bitch about "BIG GOVERNMENT"..WOW! The last time I checked, it wasn't the politicians or governments responsibility to RAISE your children!

  10. I was on this train. I actually helped to break up two of the fights that broke out at the Wells stop. It was a group of at least a dozen 13 to 16 year-old KIDS. They were just picking fights with random passengers. I pulled three boys off one kid who ended up with a bloody nose and a busted lip. He got pretty messed up.

The rest of the kids in the group were taking video of their friends beating up total strangers. They were acting like a pack of wild dogs. It was kind of scary. I think that on my best day I could fight off 3 or 4 teenagers, but not a group of them.

They were terrorizing an entire train. And yes, it held up the southbound Red Line for at least half an hour.

Did anyone out there get video?

  11. Patrick your account of what happened matches the police dispatcher's report. I checked several sources for video. So far, no luck. I'll keep looking. In the meantime, if anyone has video of the brawl on the CTA Red Line, contact me at news@ChicagoNewsReport.com.

  12. One day somebody is going to K I L L some of these little bas**rds. G O O D

The police are WORTHLESS and IMPOTENT (of course the fact that there will N E V E R be any witnesses - no-snitch and all - gives the police a "who-gives-a-f**k" attitude).

Last week on the Red Line 'L' somebody threw a "D" battery at me from behind, and hit my head HARD.

I now carry a BIG Black steel flashlight with 5 HEAVY "D" batteries inside; I can't wait to CRUSH some Mama's little darlin's f**kin' skull.
