Two Chicago firefighters were killed while trying to tame a deadly blaze at an abandoned warehouse at 1744 East 75th Street, in Chicago's South Shore community.
47-year-old Edward Stringer and 38-year-old Corey Ankum, were crushed when the roof collapsed. The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
Fire officials said the fire was concentrated in the back of the building, in what used to be an office.
Two other firefighters were also trapped by falling debris, but survived their injuries.
According to ABC News, the building's owner had been cited several times for various code violations, mostly for failure to maintain the integrity of structure's roof.

What a complete tragedy and all for an empty building from a fire that MAY have been caused by the homeless and on the 100th anniversary of the Union Stock Yard fire. I'm sad for their families.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this is a heartbreaking story.
