At 1:08 a.m., police announced that there was a car accident on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 87th Street. Reportedly, a car was flipped over and a woman was trapped inside.
At 1:11 a.m., an off-duty police officer on the scene contacted dispatch and asked for back up. The off-duty officer also requested handcuffs.
At 1:14 a.m., a Chicago police officer at the crash, said enough officers were on the scene and the state police were taking over the investigation.
