College Student Beaten and Robbed Near Columbia College Campus: Harrison and State

At 3:52 a.m., a man was beaten and robbed near 2 East 8th Street, a multi-college community building, which houses an estimated 800 Columbia College students.

CBS2Chicago, who picked up this story, didn’t bother to mention that this crime took place near a college campus. Instead, they gave a generic location of Harrison and State. The 2 East 8th Street address was uncovered through a Chicago News Report investigation.

The victim, Nicholas Assardo, told CBS that after walking a friend to the Harrison, Red Line train station, he was confronted by four men. One of them was armed with a bat. The men beat him and took his wallet. According to Assardo, the suspects were laughing while they were assaulting him.

Even though it is not mentioned in the CBS news report, the men involved in this crime were African-American. That information is based on what was reported to a 911 operator, the morning the beating and robbery occurred.

Detectives believe the men who beat and robbed Assardo, may be connected to other crimes, because their modus operandi is strikingly similar to other robberies in the area.

  1. Laughing while you beat a man with a bat? How utterly barbaric! What kind of people would do that? Robbing him and beating him wasn't enough? They had to laugh about it too?!!! If someone did that to someone they loved, would that be funny too?

  3. Why didn't Columbia College or CBS report the beating of a student by seven black men at a party on Monday Sept. 29? involving a local rapper's brother and his animal friends. Check this story out, its true!
