9th ward Alderman, Anthony Beale, who is African-American, wants to level the playing field for minorities who aspire to become Chicago police officers, by getting rid of the two-year college requirement.
Beale told the Chicago Sun-Times that minorities are less likely to have money for a college education, than their white counterparts.
"A lot of minorities can't afford to go to college. A lot of minorities go into the trades or into the military. Why should they be excluded," asked the chairman of the City Council's Police Committee.
Beale also said that merely living to see one's 24th or 25th birthday, should count as experience, when deciding who gets to carry a badge and a gun.

Dear Alderman Anthony Beale
ReplyDeleteCan't the City Council and Mayor Daley find a way to re-appoint Police Chief Superintendent Weis ? It will be sad story to lose one of the most qualified law enforcement just because of politics.
