Barry A. Marquez, accused Red Line rapist from Evanston, was looking for love online

A man accused of sexually assaulting a young woman on a CTA Red Line platform, was desperately looking for love on the internet... or his next victim.

28-year-old Barry A. Marquez from the 2300 block of Bradley Place in Evanston, Illinois, was charged with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old girl.

Citing several news reports, the savage act occurred Sunday, February 2, 2014, around 5 p.m. at the North/Clybourn station, 1599 North Clybourn Avenue.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Marquez was arrested an hour after the assault.

In our efforts to learn more about the accused rapist, we discovered Marquez belongs to at least two online groups whose focus is "love and friendship."

"My friends are so sweet," one of the Facebook groups the alleged sex offender belongs to, is supposedly dedicated to friendship and has 3,247 members.

"24 sweet hours make 1 sweet day! 7 sweet days make 1 sweet week! 4 sweet weeks make 1 sweet month! But 1 sweet friend like 'U' Make my whole life sweet," is listed as the Facebook group's description.

On March 23, 2013, at 1:31 p.m., Marquez posted the following message on the group's message board:

"Yo necesito corrazon para me enchanta! Por favor? Hablan a me? I speak English too, just ask me what it means."

For those of you who don't speak Spanish, it appears Marquez was trying to say, "I need someone to love. Please. Speak to me."

No one replied to Marquez's invitation... at least not where anyone could see it.

Four months after the accused rapist's attempt to find love via the "My friends are so sweet" group, failed... he posted this message under the "My Love" group:

"What's up my Lil homies, how's the fun in your life planned?"

Again, there was no response.

Because Marquez chose groups whose members are mostly Hindu or of Middle Eastern decent, we are guessing his alleged victim isn't black.

If investigators want to narrow their search for more potential victims, we suggest they concentrate on chatrooms and message boards that cater to Hispanic or Middle Eastern women.

  1. He didn't even rape her. If she resisted someone would've heard. I honestly don't believe he is guilty. My guess is she felt dumb after... He should not be charged. Unless there were witnesses who actually saw her being raped (meaning saw her actually resisting), then it's just her word against his, and let's be honest who are they more likely to believe?.. If she was resisting, someone would have witnessed the act-It's not exactly a secluded area.. If she felt she made a poor choice after having sex with him, That isn't his fault.
