At approximately 1:43 a.m., a woman at 7645 North Sheridan Road called 911 after her boyfriend beat her up, said police.
Authorities identified the offender as an overweight, 26-year-old black male named Oliver King.
According to officials, King is a known gang banger with at least one prior conviction.
When police arrived at the scene, King allegedly assaulted a Chicago police officer and fled the scene on foot.
A responding officer immediately called for backup.
While in pursuit of the assailant, officers were instructed to use extreme caution, because authorities were told King was possibly armed with a gun.
About 15 to 20 minutes later, King was apprehended at 7704 North Eastlake Terrace, around 2:08 a.m.
Apparently, Wednesday’s altercation was not the first time King attacked his girlfriend.
When authorities ran King’s information through the police database, they discovered an expired order of protection, granted to the so-called victim.
Citing police communications, the complainant refused to go to the hospital.
At the time of this report, it was unclear if the allegedly battered officer sustained any injuries.
