A Chicago Tribune report indicating a woman's dog was left in the cold on January 5 and was found dead 12 hours later - is false.
46-year-old Tracy Cherry of Calumet Park, Illinois, was charged with animal abuse after she let her 9-year-old Pit Bull freeze to death, said authorities.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Cherry, who lives on the 1400 block of West 123rd Street, left her dog, Petey, outside in below-zero temperatures on January 5th.
12 hours later, the neglected dog's body was discovered in a doghouse, said police.
Citing the Chicago Tribune, the official cause of death was hypothermia.
While Cherry's dog may have froze to death, Chicago News Report found evidence the dog was dead long before January 6.
On January 2, Cherry announced, via Facebook, that her "best friend" was dead.
"MY BEST FRIEND IN THE WORLD PETEY CHERRY DIED TODAY HE WAS THE BEST PET I EVER HAD THIS DOG DID THE MOST AMAZING TRICKS HE PROTECTED MY FAMILY HE DID HIS JOB WELL," said the 46-year-old woman.
So, either the Tribune screwed up the dates, or Cherry lied to authorities.
While Cherry had nothing but nice things to say about the animal she allegedly murdered, she wasn't nearly as generous toward the neighbor who reported her negligence.
Three days after her January 20th arrest, Cherry took to Facebook with a vengeance.
"Good evening fb family I can't stress enough the Importance of knowing whos who in your life the ones that have your back and those that will stab you and throw you under the bus.And tell people you slipped and fell. Damn what a neighbor and freind. So you thaught (sp), " said the accused dog-killer and alleged Chicago State University employee.
In response to Cherry's rant against her neighbor, one of Cherry's Facebook friends seem to suggest the Good Samaritan should be murdered.
"Those are the ones who throw rocks and hide they (sp) hand...those are the ones that looks good in cement shoes," said a woman identified as Nikki Songbyrd Cherrybomb.
Always pitbulls with these ghetto savages. Not sorry it's dead - keeps it from maiming or killing a human being - we'd probably be better off without it's owner as well.
ReplyDeleteWith responsible owners; which this poor animal clearly did not have, pitbulls are FAR superior to most other breeds. When raised properly they are gentle, loyal, and protective. (just like most dogs) People crying that the entire breed are bloodthirsty killers are complete morons.

Another responsible, highly pigmented person. Her love for her animal was beyond any doubt. Sometimes, despite the best possible care, a beloved pet dies for no known reason. I was so touched by her loss that I tried to contact her with the intention of making an offer to replace her cherished companion. My heart is heavy with grief as I consider how cruelly, fate has dealt with this saintly woman. May she never so much as stub her toe in the time she has left in this life.

DeleteNeither possibility would surprise me. The people writing for the Tribune these days would barely be competent enough to hold the title "Intern" 15yrs ago, but everyone is too buys repeating the mantra that "diversity is our strength" to notice how far they have fallen...
